Excerpt from the movie "Let There Be Morning" (Cannes Film Festival)

The film "Let There Be Morning" directed by Eran Kolirin is the grand winner of the Ophir Awards of the Israeli Academy of Film and Television, and he was chosen to represent Israel at the American Oscar ceremony. In addition, the film won directing, screenplay, lead actor, lead actress, and supporting actor awards - the film garnered a total of seven awards. The film "Legend of Destruction" by Gidi Der Graf won four awards and "The Victory Picture" by Avi Nesher garnered three awards. The ceremony took place against the background of marking 30 years of the academy's activity, and was held at the Dohel Center in the Hatikva neighborhood of Tel Aviv, hosted by Shai Avivi and Alma Zack. It airs at 9:15 p.m.

"Let There Be Morning" and "Victory Picture" by Avi Nesher led in the number of nominations, however only one of them won big - Kolirin's film.

Each of the films deals with the Israeli-Arab conflict in its own way.

Incredibly, the most popular Israeli filmmaker of our generation, and also the first to be chosen to light a beacon - was never until tonight personally nominated for the Ophir Prize.

During his more than forty career career, only one of his films ("Once Upon a Time") was nominated in the film category.

Following this, Nesher chose not to register his previous film, the blockbuster "Another Story", for the competition.

This time, he decided to return to the race and received the first ever nomination in the script category and the first nomination ever in the directing category.

However, he failed to win one of the grand prizes this time either.

"When problematic things happen in the family, you hope that they will change": Why did Avi Nesher return to compete in the Ophir Awards?

In addition to his candidacy, Nesher was also one of three who received a special award for their contribution to the local film industry - along with Eitan Even and Ruthie Dykes. At the time of awarding the award to the Eagle of the Audience stood a long time.

Nesher, your films are an integral part of Israeli culture, selected as the most beloved director in Israel, you break the box office with each of your films and each of your films is also screened at international festivals - why is it so important for you to win the Ophir Award? Why did you return to it this year?

"This is the Israeli cinema family and I am part of it. These are people I love very much and are very close to. I would come here even if I did not have a film in the competition, I would come to celebrate the achievements of Israeli filmmakers. I really like Israeli cinema.

There are Palestinian actors in "And Be Morning" and in your film, only with you they did not renounce their identification with Israel. How do you explain the difference?

"I do not know. Eran Kolirin is a great director. It is an outstanding film. The actors who played with us were very close to me, and really liked the film. Every film and its dynamics."

The film takes place in 1948, what do you think is its importance and message today?

"The message is that everyone is human, and sometimes there are different stories. One has to recognize the legitimacy of the other's story even if one does not agree with it, and the value of human life is more important than anything else."

The film continues to wait on the shelf because of the corona. What are you waiting for? Why is it so important for you to see it on a big screen?

"The film just shows a lot of pre-premieres, which is very gratifying. Moshe Edri, who is a very smart person, wants to come out with the film when he feels that the audience has come to cinemas, and we trust him completely."

You are finally a candidate for Ofir, and Miri Regev is no longer on the ground. Do not have a pinch in the heart?

"I'm glad the Minister of Culture came here to celebrate with us and help us. I know Hili Trooper well, he's a great person, and it's great fun to be here."

"Legend of Destruction," directed by Gidi Der, has won awards for original music, soundtrack, artistic design and editing.

Gidi,

why was it important for you to engage in war at home and not in war outside?

"Because this is the decisive war. This is the really important war. The Jews have always lost to civil wars. Almost no external enemy has finished them. And this is the war that will decide our fate this time as well."

"Victory Picture" takes place in 1948 but your film takes place thousands of years back. What is his topical message for you?

"Again, the message of my film is that our inner state is the most crucial thing. In 1948, with all the divisions, we were really together, and we performed miracles. For division and inner disintegration - it was destroyed."

Sucks you that there is no woman nominated for the Film, Director and Screenplay Awards?

"I'll tell you the truth, I'm not that busy. There are a lot of great Israeli directors who have also won. It happens that there are no candidates.I don't really have a position on that. "

No less than three actors from the Arab sector from the film "Let There Be Morning" won, two of them did not attend the ceremony and it was reported that they are in Germany - Jonah Suleiman who won the lead actress award, and Alex Bakri who won the lead actor award.

Ihab Elias Salameh won the supporting actor award and he came to the ceremony.

The three of them, the one who arrived and the one who sent his speech from abroad, sharply criticized the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Ihab Elias Salameh said: "I have a dream, and this dream does not harm humanity, nor is it harmful to health.

My dream consists of two systems - first act - a just peace for the Palestinian people.

Second act - a life of calm, a life of peace and a creative life for the citizens of the country. "

Several bites were heard during the evening towards the former Minister of Culture, Miri Regev. The chairman of the Israeli Film Academy, Assaf Amir, said in his speech on stage: "In recent years, Israeli cinema has been severely attacked. In fact, the Ministry of Culture turned its back on us. I'm glad we'm not there anymore. It is impossible to boast of Israeli democracy and at the same time censor and silence. "Culture Minister Hili Troper also teased her:" We have had less shouting, less hatred in recent years. I believe that a good work grows in place of conflicting and offensive languages. "

In addition, a number of criticisms were heard on stage against the budget of Israeli productions.

Presenter Shai Avivi said, in presenting the award to an artistic designer: "It's no secret that the artists' salaries in the industry are not high. Which explains the possibility of taking a dresser or lamp set, which you like, and that's what makes the artistic designer think so much."

Raymond Amsalem, who won the Supporting Actress Award for her role in the film "House on Finn Street," said in a thank-you speech: "When will we finally make films that are not budget-friendly?".

Oddly enough, among the five nominated for Best Picture there is no film directed by a woman, and so is the directorial category.

"One in the Heart" by Talia Lavie, who at the time picked up a host of Ophir Awards with "Zero in Human Relations", was left out of most of the main categories.

"Someone will love someone" by Hadas Ben Aroya, although he was chosen to participate in the Berlin Festival, did not receive a single nomination.
