Sydney will lift the hotel quarantine for vaccinated travelers from November.
The Australian metropolis will be "open again for double-vaccinated people from all over the world," said the Prime Minister of New South Wales, Dominic Perrottet, on Friday.
The 14-day hotel quarantine will then be a thing of the past.
"This is an important day for our state," said Perrottet.
However, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison immediately restricted that the regulation only applied to Australian citizens, people with a residence permit and their respective families.
The borders are not yet opened to travelers from abroad.
Australia closed its borders 19 months ago due to the pandemic and imposed some of the world's toughest restrictions on the fight against the coronavirus.
Tens of thousands of Australians were stranded abroad and tourism came to a standstill.
Australia's capital ends lockdown after two months

The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) region with the Australian capital Canberra has ended a lockdown that has been in place for two months.
The authorities announced on Friday that people should be able to leave their homes again with immediate effect.
Private households can now receive up to five guests again.
Gatherings of up to 25 people are allowed outside.
Local, sports facilities and hairdressers can also open if strict distance rules are observed.
In mid-August, a corona case was confirmed in the ACT with around 430,000 inhabitants for the first time in a year.
A lockdown, initially imposed for seven days, was extended several times due to the increasing number of infections.
Authorities reported 35 new cases on Friday.
Meanwhile, 76 percent of the population in the ACT are fully vaccinated, said Regional Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith the Australian broadcaster ABC.
On Monday, the lockdown in the state of New South Wales with the metropolis of Sydney was ended - after 106 days.
Australia with its 25 million inhabitants had long pursued a zero Covid strategy and was successful in the fight against the pandemic for a long time due to extremely strict rules.
However, due to the spread of the delta variant, lockdowns have increased in several regions in recent months.

US Medicines Agency recommends booster vaccination with Moderna

After the approval of corona booster vaccinations for the elderly and risk groups with the funds from Biontech / Pfizer, a panel of experts from the US FDA has also spoken out in favor of such vaccinations with the funds from Moderna. People who have been vaccinated with Moderna and who are older than 65, as well as younger people who are at higher risk due to previous illnesses or their job, should receive a booster vaccination with half a dose of the agent at least six months after their previous second vaccination dose, the panel decided on Thursday. The panel's recommendations are non-binding, but the FDA typically follows them.
The FDA had previously approved a booster vaccination for the elderly and risk groups with the means from Biontech / Pfizer, and these vaccinations have already started in the USA.
On Friday, the panel of experts wants to discuss possible booster vaccinations for people who have been vaccinated with the drug from Johnson & Johnson.
Around 170 million people in the USA are vaccinated with the funds from Biontech / Pfizer or Moderna, around 15 million with those from Johnson & Johnson.
