Antisemitic.

Human reasoning holds that a woman who writes beautifully like Sally Rooney cannot be an idiot. Beautiful art sometimes confuses us, but it does not lie to us. A person who can create such a sensitive, so refined art, cannot become completely superficial when it comes to talking about a complex subject. The woman who wrote some of the smartest internal dialogues of the last decade, which helped mediate the consciousness of Generation Z black on white, can become almost awkwardly monotonous when asked to talk about a particular topic. Her books are full of contrasts and the gray margins of human reality, but in her real life she chooses to divide the world into binary, good and bad. Something is wrong.

If you do not know Sally Rooney it's okay, Irish writers are not as popular these days as "The Squid Games" or "Wedding" stars, but they are one of the most esteemed creators in the world right now. Only 30 years old, and has already managed to write two huge bestsellers: "Normal People" which is working on a successful series on Hulu (which she also wrote) and "Conversations with Friends" which is also working on the small screen, in a series that is scheduled to air next year.

Last September, Ronny released her third book - "A Beautiful World, Where Are You" - and already on its third day in stores it became the best-selling book of 2021 in the UK. This is a phenomenon. A young woman who makes young people run to bookstores and empty the shelves, all with novels about the little nuances of real life, not about a school for wizards or flying dragons. However, there is one problem: we will not be able to read this book in Hebrew, simply because Roni refuses to allow an Israeli publisher to translate her book. In other words:Sally Rooney is an idiot or antisemitic. And remember, she's not stupid.

Hard to believe, but "Venom 2" is the best romantic comedy right now

Yes, I know, it is not customary to write "anti-Semitic" about someone just because it takes the side of the Palestinians in the regional conflict that has accompanied us for decades.

In general, it is not customary to slam the word "antisemitic" in front of intellectuals.

Even Roger Waters has managed to evade the nickname "antisemitic", and often gets the laundered phrase - "BDS supporter".

But as the representative of the generation that puts the personal experience at the center, Sally Roni can claim that in her opinion Israel is committing war crimes.

In my opinion, and again, this is just my personal experience of the whole situation without meeting Roni or having a minimum of dialogue with her - she's just antisemitic.

Sometimes things have to be said as they are.

As mentioned, Sally Rooney is not an idiot, and her choice to prevent the translation of her book into Hebrew is an uncultural act. She knows it. This is not an attack on the State of Israel. The state budget will not be hurt because several thousand copies of Roni will not be sold in Steimatzky. The IDF will probably not withdraw from the territories if Roni does not reach a 4-in-120 operation at Sefarim Junction. In fact, most Israelis who are interested in reading it will not be harmed by her decision. Another language other than Hebrew, as the book has been translated into dozens of languages.

Every Israeli who speaks Russian, and there are quite a few, can order Roni's new book in Russian translation.

Why?

Because Ronnie is antisemitic, not an idiot.

Even if we all agree that the Israeli occupation is immoral, and the world should side with the Palestinians - Israel's actions still do not even come close to the immorality, cruelty and violence perpetrated by the Putin administration against journalists, senior opposition figures and just lesbian singers.

Putin could turn members of the proud community in Russia into second-class citizens and conquer all of Ukraine - but would that make Sally Rooney boycott the Russian language?

Give up tens and maybe hundreds of thousands of potential readers?

of course not.

What, she's dumb?

It is not a competition.

Sally Rooney's book also sells in China. You know, this little country that has set up concentration camps for the re-education of over a million Uighur Muslims, where they are forcibly working in cotton picking in order to abandon the belief in Islam. Ethnic cleansing according to the book, one that takes place now, not in the history books - but it's less cool to be in favor of the Uighurs. What hashtag do they have at all? By the way, Roni claimed that she would be happy if her book was translated into Hebrew, but not in Israel. Its boycott is against the Israeli economy, not against the Hebrew language. This is ironic, because while Roni is boycotting Modan's private publishing house, its libraries are published in China in a company owned by the local government. That is, if she had chosen not to work with the local publishing house in China, she would have symbolically undermined Shai's regime of horrors.

You can also buy Ronnie's new book in the state of Texas in the USA, which is good, because if someone is raped in Texas and gets pregnant - she has to travel to a neighboring country to have an abortion. Thanks to Sally Ronnie, at least she will have something to read on the long bus ride.

Supports additional BDS.

All this does not come to undo the injustices of the occupation. This is an important discussion, and it is important that as many Israelis as possible participate in it. This is a discussion we need to have with the world as well. This is a discussion that as many smart people as possible will participate in, it will be better for the State of Israel. But Sally Rooney is not interested in dialogue, Sally Rooney chooses to boycott. Harm. To hang up the phone. To slam the door. Make a block. She is not interested in hearing the opinions of others, certainly not diving into the heart of the complex campaign of the Middle East. And that's a little ironic. This is the same woman who wrote the character of Marian in "Normal People," who, while joining demonstrations against Israel, also sees how "cruelty harms not only the victim but also the aggressor. And it is possible that the aggressor side is harmed more deeply and more permanently." One does not have to agree with this sentence of course, but one must ask: how can someone who can be so compassionate in her writing be so rude in her conduct?

After all, what's Sally Rooney's goal in joining BDS? She tries to prove that the cultural power she has gained gives her the right to determine who will enjoy her work and who will not. Beyond condescension, it is simply a violent act. It is an anti-intellectual decision of a wise man. If Sally Roni goes through the world map, and the only place she sees a need to correct injustice is the State of Israel, and the only language she chooses to boycott is the Hebrew language - she simply does not receive the sum of our existence. If this is not anti-Semitism, it is not clear what is.

So even though she does not want to, here is a little Hebrew translation from Roni's new book: "Maybe we were born just to love and care for people close to us, and to continue to love and care for them even though there are more important things we could do. A nicer reason than that? While we had to reorganize the distribution of resources in the world and establish a sustainable sustainable economic model, we cared about sex and friends. Because we loved each other too much, and found too much interest in each other. To me, that's the most beautiful thing in humanity That is why we hope that humanity will survive - because we are so stupid. "

Beautiful art sometimes confuses us, but it does not lie.
