The writer and songwriter Yitzhak Keinan ("Sea of Oats", "My Valley") passed away at the age of 79

The writer, songwriter and public figure Yitzhak Keinan passed away today (Friday) at the age of 79. Keinan served as head of the Beit She'an Council from 1974-1983 and is the one who wrote "The Sea of Oats" and "My Valley".
Keinan was born in Morocco and immigrated to Israel in 1952. He worked as a teacher, educator and school principal in the city of Beit She'an, graduating with a bachelor's degree in history and Hebrew literature from the University of Haifa. In 1974 he was elected head of the Beit She'an council on behalf of the Labor Party, and served two terms, until 1983. In 1984 he was sent to France as an emissary of the "Youth Aliyah" in Western Europe. In 1987, he was appointed director general of Art for the People, a position he held until 1992. Between 2001 and 2004, he was sent again to France, as an emissary of the Jewish Agency
. He became famous after being performed by the Gevatron band, and also composed the songs "My Valley", "Lantern in the Fall", "Cypress of Sadness" and others.In addition, he published a number of novels and even a children's book called "The Wonder Snake from Marrakesh".
