Retired beheaded in Agde: the suspect says he does not remember the facts

The profile of the suspect in the beheading of a 77-year-old woman in Agde (Hérault) on Wednesday is becoming clearer.

On the night of Friday to Saturday, the public prosecutor of Béziers, Raphaël Balland, gave details on the personality of Jean-Michel M, 51 years old.

It was quickly made public that this former boxer was suffering from psychological problems and follow-up as a result.

"Regarding the crime likely to be accused, he claims so far to have no memory, citing his memory problems," said the prosecutor.

He would have "neurological disorders" which would cause an absence of "short-term memory".

Accused of theft by the victim in 2020

In any case, the investigators have overwhelming evidence. They have at their disposal several videos from the surveillance system of the victim's housing. A man "matching the physical appearance" of the suspect is visible while carrying a "large knife". The investigators also found during a search of the shoes corresponding to the prints present at the scene of the crime. In addition, bags similar to those seen in the videos were found at the suspect's home and vehicle. His car, in fact, was near the scene of the crime at the times when it occurred.

Jean-Michel M had had prior contact with Evelyne K, the victim because she was looking for someone who could do some small work at home.

With the bank card he stole from him, he was filmed withdrawing 1000 euros from an ATM.

In addition, Jean-Michel M. is the husband of a former housekeeper of the victim.

She was fired in 2020 when Evelyne K believed her husband was robbing the agent from her home while he was doing the chores she needed.

For 18 months, Jean-Michel M. has lived alone, near Agde, after having separated from his wife.

His police custody was extended on Friday evening.
