For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, the Russian authorities have recorded more than 1000 corona deaths within one day.

The government announced that 1002 deaths and 33.208 new infections were registered within 24 hours.

According to the website »Gogow«, which, in view of the lack of nationwide vaccination statistics, collects data from the regions, only around 31 percent of Russia's 146 million inhabitants are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Despite the rising number of infections, the Kremlin has so far avoided the reintroduction of strict corona restrictions.

The government said the vaccination rate was "unacceptably" low.

However, she assured her that the Russian health system was still able to cope with the increasing number of patients.

The government sees the blame for the increase in the number of infections mainly in the population.

Health Minister Michail Muraschko attributed the current situation "primarily to the behavior of the population and inadequate vaccinations".

According to surveys, more than half of Russians do not want to be vaccinated.

More than 220,000 deaths have been recorded in Russia since the pandemic began, according to the Kremlin.

The statistics institute Rosstat, which broadens the definition of coronavirus-related deaths, estimates more than 400,000.
