"This Week with Redemption" (here news)

"This Week with Geula", the new Friday edition of Here 11 hosted by Geula Even-Saar, a veteran and esteemed journalist, with rights and stature - set off with an elephant in a room in the form of a justice minister and deputy prime minister who happens to be the presenter's partner.

What to do, this is an elephant piece, and a major current affairs program in a hyper-political era is very reminiscent of a china shop.

Even if the store owner declares a conflict of interest, it can be expected that at some point the tools will break.

Should Saar Stone give up her successful career because of her husband?

I'm not sure, and I think we would not have expected this from a male journalist married to a politician.

But this is not a zero-sum game: it would have been better if Even Saar had focused only on magazine and culture programs, and for a time abandoned the current prime time.

Her dignity was not diminished, but rather the opposite.

The broadcasting corporation thinks otherwise, and put the reins for the new program in its hands.

Even if this is not a blatantly unreasonable decision, it has prices, stars that hover over the studio.

Viewers see them, of course, and they obscure the discussion.

Disaster - Absolutely not.

Squeak - Absolutely yes.

This was the case, for example, in the discussion on MK Yuli Edelstein's announcement of his intention to run for the Likud leadership against Benjamin Netanyahu. As he did not so long ago, you know who. Do not ease the gap: this is exactly where the line between a current affairs program and a conversation between friends blurs. It was an awkward moment to watch. There will probably be more like it in the future.

These asterisks overshadow the show itself, which is actually not entirely trivial.

Although in terms of the issues on the agenda, the mix of "Week with Redemption" is not so different from that of its rivals.

Welfare issues or climate, for example, were completely absent from it, although to its credit it can be said that the political conversation reached only half an hour into it - taking a nice stand against the default of the new companies, whose political gossip is enema bread.

At the center of the edition was an interesting interview with Colette Avital, although the other articles did not particularly impress.

Even Saar herself was responsible for a considerable amount of the content - with an opening monologue, the interview in question, a long article and another interview at the end, this time with Ricky Gal.

But rather stylistically, it could have been a revolution. In front of the tedious, multi-participant panels - "This Week with Redemption" tried to present an alternative: instead of a collection of shouts in parliament - conversations with one or two commentators; Instead of articles - short collages that tell the whole story; Instead of noise - quiet. In today’s media reality, it is a brave and appreciative move, not to mention a vision for glory.

In practice, this whole concept was wasted on a pretty heavenly transmitter, an hour and fifty in length, which was run at the pace of an old snail.

And in general: all the visual innovation of the corporation did not seep even a little into what should be a celebratory flagship show to sum up the week, but looks more like a random show on the production line of here 11 in a missing format - especially when Saar and its interviewees sit on the high tables behind, while the camera Looks at them from a distance, past the orphaned panel table, and showcases the empty room.

The edition that could be sharper, more relevant and effective for its viewers than all its competitors - is thwarted by its own studio.

With all due respect to the elephant in the room, this should worry the program staff much more.
