Norwegian police revealed on Monday that the radicalized man, and with probably failing mental health, had targeted a dozen pe

It's a shattering revelation, which will undoubtedly raise many questions about the investigation: Espen Andersen Bråthen, the man who killed five people Wednesday night in Norway did not act with a bow, but with a bladed weapon.

This is what the Norwegian police announced on Monday, during a press conference held in a hotel in Kongsberg.

Based on the 60 witnesses that the police formally questioned, it is now established that the attack carried out by Bråthen began in a Coop-Extra supermarket in the city center. “We know he shot a bow and arrow inside the store. This is where an off-duty policeman was injured ”in the shoulder blade, said police inspector Per Thomas Omholt.

After aiming at several people with his arrows, the killer left the store.

He would then have put down this spectacular weapon to continue his murderous journey armed with one or more bladed weapons.

Andréa Meyer, 52, Hanne Merethe Englund, 56, Liv Berit Borge, 75, Gunnar Erling Sauve, 75 and Gun Marith Madsen, 78, the five people who were killed on Hyttegata Street, were stabbed.

The authorities refuse to specify with which weapon they were, the time, they say, to question two witnesses who were at the scene.

Suspicions of Islamist radicalization

Witnesses have told Norwegian media since Wednesday that they have come across or seen the archery shooter with his weapon long after the attack in the supermarket.

Police had so far claimed that the suspect had, in addition to his bow, two other weapons in his possession.

In all, the killer threatened a dozen people with his bow, but he did not use his weapon to kill his victims.

Suspected of Islamist radicalization, Espen Andersen Bråthen, a 37-year-old Dane who has lived in Konsgberg for many years, admitted to having killed five people and injured three others.

“As for the motive, (mental) illness remains the main hypothesis.

And with regard to conversion to Islam, this assumption is weakened, ”added Per Thomas Omholt.

Placed in pre-trial detention in a medical institution, the suspect, who has already explained himself at length, is no longer able to be heard at present.

A psychiatric assessment is underway to determine whether or not he can be held criminally responsible for his actions.
