A murder investigation was opened after two people, a woman and a man, were found dead overnight from Friday to Saturday in a residence in Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).
The facts occurred around 2:30 am at the home of La Paloise, in the city center, according to Sud-Ouest.
"The first investigations suggest that one killed the other before taking his own life," said the public prosecutor Cécile Gensac.
The body of the 34-year-old woman, believed to have been stabbed, was found inside her home while the body of the 42-year-old man was found outside the home , on the ground, below a window.
The police were warned in the middle of the night "by third parties".
He could possibly have jumped, a hypothesis that the magistrate has not confirmed at this stage, according to The Republic of the Pyrenees.
These two people, who are not known to justice, "knew each other but did not live together," added the prosecutor.
For the time being, "there is no evidence of the intervention of a third party", according to Sud-Ouest.
The investigation was entrusted to the judicial police of Bayonne and its office in Pau.
