An even sportier design marked by the standard AMG Line, with top technology and more performing engines.

It is the new Mercedes CLS, now in its third generation and which has now undergone a mid-career facelift.

There are many innovations introduced with the restyling and they are already noticeable at first glance, starting with the new radiator grille and bumper, designed to further accentuate the dynamism of the four-door coupe of the Star.

The interior has also been updated, with combinations of leather and inserts in addition to the steering wheel which is of the latest generation. In particular, the steering wheel uses the capacitive principle to recognize the driver's hands. In the crown there is a dual-zone sensor insert that registers if it is grabbed, so it is no longer necessary to make a steering movement to signal the driver assistance systems that the driver is in control of the car. This increases operating comfort in partially autonomous driving.

But big news are also present under the bonnet with the introduction of the new OM 654 M 2-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine, launched in March 2021, with integrated second-generation starter-alternator and 48 V on-board network. 300 d 4MATIC has a mild-hybrid drive and guarantees truly exceptional fuel consumption (5.8-5.5 l / 100 km) with combined CO2 emissions of 153-144 g / km. The power output is 265 hp (195 kW), plus 20 hp (15 kW) of electric boost effect with a maximum speed of 250 km / h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h of 6.4 seconds.

We had the opportunity to try the new CLS in a test drive that took us to the Auto e Moto d'Epoca fair in Padua where Mercedes celebrated the 25th anniversary of the SLK and brought a forerunner of electric cars: the 190 E Elektro of the late 1980s, in addition to the latest EQS. During the test drive we were able to touch the great handling and comfort of this 4-door coupe devouring kilometers and low consumption: with the 300 d 4 MATIC at 130 km / h on the motorway you can travel about 20 km with a liter of diesel.

The new CLS is available in two trim levels, Premium and Premium Plus, for a sporty look right from the entry version. In addition to AMG styling, the Premium offers smartphone integration, the memory package and the Burmester Surround Sound System as standard equipment. The Premium Plus is richer, with a high-end equipment that adds, in addition to what is already available on the Premium version, numerous innovations including the head-up display, the automatic climate control with three zones, the MBUX with Interior Assistant Gesture Control, the electric sliding glass roof, the Energizing package and the Urban Guard.

The CLS of course is also available in the AMG version with a 3-liter petrol engine that delivers 435 hp (320 kW) as well as 22 hp (16 kW) of boost effect and 250 Nm of momentary torque more, also feeding the on-board network. at 48 V. The CLS 53 4MATIC + accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.5 seconds and has a top speed limited to 250 km / h. "Since the launch of the first generation in 2004 - explained Eugenio Blasetti, communications manager of Mercedes-Benz Italy - the Stuttgart company has sold 450,000 CLS worldwide, of which 15,000 in Italy, and in 2020 China is was the largest market, followed by South Korea, the United States and Germany. The factor that affects customers' motivation to buy the most is design, which emphasizes sportiness. "

Prices start at 88,514 euros for the CLS 300 d 4MATIC Mild hybrid.
