Hamburg intensive care physician warns of significantly increasing numbers
9.41 a.m.:
The director of the Clinic for Intensive Care Medicine at the University
Medical Center
Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), Stefan Kluge, warns of significantly increasing corona numbers in the coming weeks.
In an interview with “Bild”, he named travelers returning and the colder weather as the reason for the increase.
“It will be a challenge because the nursing staff is becoming increasingly scarce.
We need three nurses a day to care for two Covid patients, "Kluge told the newspaper.
In addition, many people feel safe.
"But unlike last year, when the mask requirement was strictly observed, there will be more flu patients."
The situation is still relaxed, "but the numbers are increasing slowly but continuously".
According to Kluge, nine patients between the ages of 20 and 70 are currently being treated in the intensive care unit at the UKE.
Six of them have to be ventilated.
Almost 90 percent of his patients are not vaccinated.
"This is incomprehensible to me, especially with older people and high-risk patients."
RKI reports 23,212 new infections
9.17 a.m.:
The nationwide seven-day incidence has increased significantly: The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) stated the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Wednesday morning at 118.0.
For comparison: the previous day the value was 113.0, a week ago it was 80.4.
The health authorities in Germany reported 23,212 new corona infections to the RKI within one day.
This is evident from the numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 4:28 a.m.
A week ago, the value was 17,015 infections.
According to the new information, 114 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.
A week ago there were 92 deaths.
The RKI has counted 4,506,415 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not recognized.
The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days - the most important parameter for a possible tightening of corona restrictions - was given by the RKI on Tuesday at 2.95 (Monday: 2.77).
With the indicator it must be taken into account that hospital admissions are sometimes reported with delay.
A nationwide threshold value from when the situation can be viewed critically is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences.
The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.
The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 4,237,100.
The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 95,359.
3G rule must not be used in doctor's offices
9.10 a.m.:
According to a report, medical practices are not allowed to make the so-called 3G rule a prerequisite for medical treatment.
"Contract doctors are obliged to treat patients," said a spokesman for the Federal Ministry of Health of "Welt".
In the corona pandemic, they should "not make treatment dependent on compliance with the 3G rule."
The Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Health had previously announced, according to "Welt", that complaints about "practices in 3G or 2G operation" had already been submitted in the outpatient sector.
3G stands for "vaccinated, recovered or tested".
The rule means that a full vaccination against the coronavirus, a recovery from Covid-19 or a negative test must be shown to enter a location.
With the 2G rule, only those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered are admitted.
Regarding access to medical practices, the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians noted that there are alternatives to the
3G
or 2G rule
for their safe operation
: "The practices may organize organizationally so that unvaccinated and untested patients are treated, for example, during specially set office hours," said a spokesman for the "world".
