The iconic SL is back, really great, but not only as a re-edition of a car that made the history of the Three-pointed Star, but in an unprecedented Mercedes-AMG edition that returns to its roots with the classic soft top in fabric and the sporty character that has distinguished it from the very beginning.

For the first time, the elegant roadster in a 2 + 2-seater configuration is proposed as a car perfectly at ease even in everyday use.

And it emphasizes its safety by transferring power to the road with all-wheel drive.

The Mercedes-AMG SL 2021 is a technical kit of the highest level, which combines the 4.0-liter AMG twin-turbo V8 engine with the AMG Active Ride Control suspension with active anti-roll system, the steering rear axle, the ceramic brakes in material high-performance AMG composite (optional) and the standard Digital Light system with projection function.

A high-tech world far away from the first 300 SL (internal name W194) of 1952 but which, then as now, represented engineering excellence and all the know-how - including that of the day after tomorrow - of Mercedes technicians and designers.

"SL is an icon: for almost 70 years the sports car par excellence has been thrilling Mercedes customers of every generation around the world - Britta Seeger, member of the board of directors of Daimler AG and head of the sales division of Mercedes-Benz Cars - With the rebirth of the Mercedes-AMG roadster, the new SL remains more than ever the symbol of this timeless charm. "

In turn, Philipp Schiemer, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH stressed that the new SL "brings together the sporting DNA of the first SL and AMG's Driving Performance, a unique combination in the sports car segment, which is also found in the interior: comfort and top-level quality are complemented by the right amount of sportiness in the passenger compartment. The refined combination of analogue elements and the most modern digital solutions makes it clear that the New SL is the rebirth of an icon for the modern age. ".

Distinctive features of the body design are the generous wheelbase, short overhangs, long engine hood, cockpit set back with steeply sloping windshield and powerful tail. "With the New SL - said Gorden Wagener, Daimler Group chief design officer - we were able to reposition the iconic design of SL. The expressive and well-modeled exterior convey an impression of lightness and purism, creating a perfect balance between sensual beauty and original design ".

The whole respects the typical proportions of the SL which, combined with the very shaped wheel arches and large light alloy rims flush with the body, give the roadster a vigorous and sporty image. When closed, the hood integrated into the body emphasizes the purism of the sporty style. The AMG-specific radiator grille emphasizes the width of the front end and echoes with the 14 vertical slats the progenitor of all SL models: the legendary racing sports car 300 SL from 1952. The designers were inspired by the interior of the new model. to the minimalist lines and precious materials of the passenger compartment of the 300 SL Roadster: the result is an exciting combination of analog geometry and digital universe, which produces a 'hyper-analog' effect.A clear example is provided by the instrumentation, which is completely digital but integrated into a three-dimensional visor. The standard MBUX infotainment system allows you to choose between different display styles and modes of operation.

A completely newly designed 2 + 2 architecture by Mercedes-AMG was chosen for the 2021 SL model. The chassis is a lightweight composite aluminum structure consisting of a self-supporting aluminum spaceframe. This type of construction guarantees maximum rigidity and thus creates the perfect conditions for precise driving dynamics, optimum component arrangement and sporty body proportions. Compared to the previous series, the body's torsional stiffness has increased by 18 percent. Transverse stiffness is 50% higher than the already excellent AMG GT Roadster value, while longitudinal stiffness marks 40% more. The weight of the bare body is about 270 kg. Thanks in part to the low center of gravity, the lightweight construction guarantees outstanding driving dynamics.

The widest range of engines ever has been planned for the new SL. At the launch date, it is presented with the 4.0-liter AMG twin-turbo V8 with two power levels.

On the top-of-the-range SL 63 4matic + model, the engine delivers 585 Hp and provides a maximum torque of 800 Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h occurs in just 3.6 seconds, top speed is 315 km / h. h.

The SL 55 4matic +, which will not be marketed in Italy, uses a V8 with 476 hp and 700 Nm of maximum torque, with a sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 295 km / h.

Later the SL will also be available in a powerful Hybrid Performance version.
