The weather in Glasgow is bad, the will to demonstrate unbroken.

Andreas Evelt

“It's crazy what's going on on the biggest day of protest around this world climate conference. What is particularly interesting is that they get so many different groups together. These are religious organizations, critics of capitalism, Scottish independence advocates, but above all, of course, climate activists. What they all have in common is that they are dissatisfied. They want a system change and that's why they take to the streets en masse even in this British weather. "

Protester

»We don't mind the weather.

It's all about saving the planet.

We all have the same values, the same passion.

We want to protect the earth - for our children, for ourselves, for the future.

We want to get governments to do the right thing, to turn words into deeds.

No more blablabla.

«

In Scotland, almost 200 countries are currently fighting for measures to limit global warming to a tolerable level of a maximum of 1.5 degrees.

The demonstrators are clearly not satisfied with the results of the heads of government so far.

“We're here to force governments to take this seriously and make change happen.

It is not enough to correct a comma or grammatical error.

You have to work on the complete sentence. "

“Otherwise, the governments, the elites and the companies will only pass responsibility on to the individual.

And the real climate offenders are not addressed, no pressure is put on them. "

"You don't have to be political to be here, come here and raise your voice, show your face."

Protests are not restricted to the streets of Glasgow.

More than 300 actions were planned around the world.

In Melbourne, protesters marched through the streets with a self-made koala carcass to illustrate the impact global warming can have on rare animal species.

Activists blocked a street in Brussels.

Back in Glasgow: More than 50,000 people are said to have joined the protest march through the city - it remained largely peaceful.

Andreas Evelt, DER SPIEGEL

»At the end of the protest march there were probably a few fireworks.

A couple of activists blocked a bridge.

But even then, a policeman told me very relaxed.

It's November, it's Scotland, it's cold.

How long should they have been sitting there?

So everything is really very calm and peaceful.

But the message of this protest weekend is of course very clear.

A lot of people from all over the world are extremely dissatisfied with what is happening here at the World Climate Conference. "
