Recently, many descriptions of sexual abuse among youth, who do not seem to be receiving widespread treatment by the state, are making headlines. The 'Efsher' organization, which treats children and youth victims of sexual assault, established eight protection centers in Israel 15 years ago, called 'Lynn Houses', which are operated by the Ministry of Welfare and established with the assistance of the Schusterman Foundation.
Mati Schick, the association's vice president, said: “The centers offer the minor and his family a process of initial support in the event of a sexual assault, the vision is holistic while focusing on the minor’s well-being. Everything is directed by social workers. There is a constant increase in the number of applicants, which in the opinion of the professionals is probably not an increase in cases, but more in an increase in awareness and a willingness to file a complaint and report. "
"As the society's awareness and openness grows, the walls of shame and concealment crack," he added, emphasizing: "There is a greater willingness to turn to professionals and take care of things, thus preventing the future damage the minor goes through."
On the storm of sexual harassment in the gay community mentioned this week in the media, Schick said: "When a minor is sexually assaulted, it is difficult to talk about sexual orientation. We may to some extent do injustice to the minor, by attributing it to some tendency."
