Vaccinated foreigners are allowed to re-enter the USA

6:01 a.m.:

Foreigners are allowed to re-enter the USA with immediate

effect

after a full vaccination against the coronavirus with internationally recognized preparations.

The corresponding regulation came into force after a proclamation by US President Joe Biden at 0.01 a.m. (local time / 6.01 a.m. CET) on Monday.

This means that even fully vaccinated foreign travelers from Germany and other Schengen countries can enter the country directly again.

Until now, this required a special permit from the US government.

In the morning, a whole fleet of passenger planes will take off across the Atlantic from Germany's largest airport in Frankfurt.

The then US President Donald Trump had ordered an entry ban for foreigners from large parts of Europe in March 2020, at the beginning of the corona pandemic.

The USA also imposed extensive entry bans on citizens from India, China, Brazil, South Africa and Iran because of the pandemic and rigorously maintained them for many months.

According to the new regulation, vaccines will be accepted that have received approval or emergency approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the World Health Organization (WHO).

This currently applies to the preparations of:

  • Biontech / Pfizer

  • AstraZeneca

  • Moderna

  • Johnson & Johnson

  • Sinopharm

  • Sinovac

A combination of two of these preparations is also possible.

Travelers must prove their vaccination status to the respective airline before boarding a plane to the United States, as the White House announced.

In addition to their vaccination certificate, travelers must also present a negative corona test that is no more than three days old.

The number of corona intensive care patients could double

05.28 a.m.:

Doctors fear a doubling of the corona patients in intensive care units. Christian Karagiannidis, scientific director of the intensive care register of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Intensive Care, said already now, with almost 2500 cases, as many corona patients would have to be cared for in the intensive care units as at the same point in time a year ago with the second corona wave Emergency medicine (Divi), the »Augsburger Allgemeine«.

In the coming weeks, the number is expected to almost double if the new infections continue to rise as before.

"With an incidence of 300, we expect around 4500 Covid patients nationwide with large regional differences," warned Karagiannidis.

The number of new infections has risen rapidly in the past few days, on Monday the nationwide seven-day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants is already over 200, according to the RKI.

Seven-day incidence at 201.1 - highest since the pandemic began

04.28 a.m.:

The seven-day incidence of new infections has reached the highest value since the beginning of the corona pandemic.

The Robert Koch Institute stated the number of confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Monday morning as 201.1.

The previous record was reached at the height of the second corona wave on December 22nd, 2020 with 197.6.

It is important to note that, unlike a year ago, many people are now vaccinated, and the rate is particularly high among the particularly endangered very old people.

Experts therefore assume that the health system can now withstand more new infections than before the vaccinations, as these protect very well against the course of serious illnesses.

  • You can read the detailed report on the current RKI figures here.

According to the new information, 33 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.

A week ago there were 23 deaths.

The RKI has counted 4,782,546 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.

Austria will tighten corona protective measures from Monday

04.08 a.m.:

In view of a sharp increase in the number of infections, significantly more stringent corona measures will apply in Austria from Monday.

For many areas of public life there is the so-called 2G regulation, so visits to restaurants, hairdressers or events with 25 or more guests are only allowed for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered.

Tests should still be possible at work.

However, a first vaccination dose in connection with a negative PCR test should also be recognized for a four-week transition period.

The »Green Pass« should therefore only be valid for nine months from the second vaccination in order to encourage people to have a booster vaccination.

In Austria around 65 percent of the population have been vaccinated so far.
