Bibi's loss is the gain of "Great Country": three comments on the season opener

As usual in the season openings of "Great Country", the 19th time was not particularly brilliant either.

The combination of the "squid game" and the Knesset seemed forced most of the time, and the parodies of rainbow brands were even more exaggerated than usual.

However, the opening and closing sketches elevated the entire program

Udi Kagan in an excerpt from the 19th season of "A Wonderful Land" (Keshet 12)

What fun that Bibi is not a prime minister, eh? No matter if you are in favor of the real Netanyahu as prime minister or not, "Great Country" has had a very hard time with his character in recent years. How much longer can you renew with it? He is a crook who lies at every step, he worked for the ultra-Orthodox, all that matters to him is the chair and all that matters to Sarah is the home. Okay, we got it. At one point, Yair Netanyahu was added to the cast in an imitation that breathed life into the royal family, but even that failed to maintain freshness over time. Something had to change.

Something has indeed changed. Now at last his character - in the very unfaithful-to-reality portrayal of Mariano Eidelman - is in a different, forced place, which does not require his presence on any panel. This is a great starting point for "A Wonderful Land" in its 19th (!) And new season, which aired yesterday (Wednesday) in Rainbow 12. Finally the dynamics are different and something different can be done, focusing on other aspects of Israeli politics. To present the bizarre heterogeneous coalition as opposed to the illusory / undermining opposition under the leader.

To say it was brilliant in the opening program?

not especially.

Throughout the vast majority no loud laughs or awakening slaps were recorded.

This is how it is usually with a "great country" - it takes a plan or two to really get started and get into the groove.

This time it's a bit of a shame, because the idea of combining the formation of a coalition that has been formed is a tug of war, and the childhood games a-la "The Squid Game" - seems completely true.

In practice, for the most part the gesture was seen as a forced V mark rather than as something that blends organically.

Still there were a few sentences that are Bull ("Remember that without me you all fall" by Mansour Abbas. "I will never be challenged, I would rather see the movie" by Miri Regev) and endearing moments.

Eran Zarchovich is surprisingly accustomed to capturing Bennett's freshest nuances ("The audience does not get excited", "Petorf").

It was also reassuring to see Asi Cohen return to Lieberman's shoes, as he is absent from the team photography of the season.

And in keeping with the promise on paper, the appearance of the swollen figures of pleasure and power now in opposition, forced to acknowledge the defeat of their leader, allows a "wonderful country" to finally present them all in a different, new and fresh light.

"Fact", "The Winning Kitchen", "The Singer in the Mask" and "Wedding at First Sight" - all were present at the season opener. Rainbow brands have always been used as frequent ingredients in "Great Country", but this time it was excessive. And in their case - far from brilliant. In the case of "Fact" at least we got a vital satire on the scandalous pension of the permanent staff, and also an excellent line on the way ("every passerby began to pass and return before my eyes"). "The Singer in a Mask" settled for a small (and funny) segment as part of "More Headlines."

The rest - Varda and Corinne Gideon and the couples from "Wedding at First Sight" - did not go beyond imitation, except for Kitzis' exact sentence for Gideon: "You two are not important."

I know it's hard to find people who do not watch all of these shows, but they do exist.

They may be able to appreciate the imitations and papers that the actors wear and demonstrate, but this time there was no added value in them or in writing, unlike for example the laugh-out-loud imitation of Zarhovich and Alma Zack to Eric and Dobby a few seasons ago.

Something that stood on its own even without knowing the source.

Itamar and Karin's toxic relationship got a little closer, and the weird kiss between them was funny, but it was all dotted with weird jokes about sweating in a pot and wearing fish.

To all this segment did not help the imitation of Zeev Elkin (Yuval Samu), who opened in one of the foggy moments of the evening - his falling asleep next to Kitsis.

A joke that came back three times in a row and was not funny even the first time.

The obsession of "VIP survival" with "being a man" is just ridiculous

The show opened and closed with sketches that lifted her up.

The opening sketch may have been a bit vague and hasty, but at its core is a strong and important statement about parents bequeathing to their children a climate that is going crazy and a world on the brink of an abyss.

I wish there was more preoccupation with this crisis, which for some reason was pushed most of the time into a corner.

The final sketch, which followed what was happening at a high-tech company, included a sequence of some of the funniest and smartest moments in the entire show.

A description of a bubble detached from the ground of reality and of the young man who manages to exploit it for this reason.

Udi Kagan, who at least in the first show of the season returned full-time, mentioned again how substantial his lack was;

And Tamir Bar, who also starred in the show's final sketches last season - "The Cops" and The Coach - once again demonstrated how appropriate his introverted and clever comedy style is in these segments.

We will not complain if it becomes the sketch series of the upcoming season.
