The common platform for golf, the development with Ford (Photo: Manufacturer's website)

When it comes to commercial vehicles, intergenerational turnover tends to be done at larger time intervals than in passenger cars.

Fashion considerations, technological innovation and instrumentation are less critical for those who are looking for the tool that will give them as much as possible at work and get the most out of it in return.

This explanation comes to clarify two things to know about the new Volkswagen Caddy - the first is that it replaces the third generation it produces for 17 years (although it underwent facelifts in 2010 and 2015 and has been called since the fourth generation, but was officially introduced in 2003) and probably will Pull many years forward too.

The second point is that while this is a model based on the 8th generation Golf floor but it is part of a growing collaboration between Ford and Volkswagen in the commercial department.

Ford's name is Tournau, and he might as well come to us one day.

The new Caddy based on a passenger car platform replaces the leaf springs at the back with coil springs, the advantage is better ride comfort and damping at the price of less good load capacity.

But it also works with the configuration in which the model arrives in Israel - with an optional third row of seats that turns it from a light commercial to a 7-seater car at a cost of NIS 2,000.

It will be marketed in the long "Maxi" version, and the exterior dimensions of 485 cm and the wheelbase of 297 cm, at least on paper, are supposed to produce cars with proper space for passengers even in the 7-seater configuration.

The paddle is charged with a 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine with an output of 122 hp at 2,750 rpm and 32.6 kg at 1,600 rpm.

The gearbox is automatic, dual-clutch with 7 transmission ratios.

The life finish level includes an 8.25-inch touch screen including compatibility for Android and Apple, digital dashboard, keyless propulsion, 4 USB sockets and two 12V sockets, folding tables in the back of the front seats and air conditioning ports.

The two rows of rear seats can be folded or removed in order to increase the volume of the cargo.

The safety systems include active safety systems such as automatic emergency braking, lane departure correction, adaptive cruise control including traffic jams, 7 airbags and more.

Modern, well-equipped and very expensive (Photo: Manufacturer's website)

The new Caddy enters the tandem market dominated for years by more or less one model - the Citroen Burlingo which holds about two-thirds of the market, followed by its twin from Toyota Pro Ace, Renault Kango in third place and fourth place remains in the family with the Opel Combo (identical to the draft and Citroen ).

All the other competitors are mostly fighting over leftovers, and the outgoing Kadi was in seventh place this year with just 65 dedications.

So an appetite to grow and a place to grow to it is not lacking for Kadi, but there is only one small matter - its price.

With a price tag of NIS 198,000, despite the exceptional equipment and safety systems, this is a price difference of tens of thousands of shekels over the most equipped versions of its competitors.

Is he that good?

We'll wait to drive it.
