The firefighters of Bas-Rhin said in the evening that they intervened to save a young man of 27 who set himself on fire in front of Strasbourg cathedral late Tuesday afternoon.
He was taken care of by the emergency services on the forecourt of the cathedral around 6:45 p.m. and transported to the New Civil Hospital in absolute urgency, specifies Les Latest Nouvelles d'Alsace.
About ten firefighters were hired for this intervention in one of the most touristic places of the European capital.
The young man's motivations remain unknown for the time being.
On a video posted on social networks by a witness, we see the victim on all fours, in the square of the religious building, while passers-by look at him in disbelief.
