Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, there has been more talk about care than ever before - but that has not improved working conditions.

Most of them were bad before Corona.

On Tuesday, hospital staff went on warning strike in several federal states.

The employees are demanding five percent more salary.

Care is also in focus this week because of a possible vaccination requirement for certain professions.

That is why there was excitement on Monday when this measure seemed already decided among the traffic light partners.

Katrin Göring-Eckardt, Die Grünen:

"And I also say that we will need compulsory vaccinations for facilities in nursing homes, day care centers, etc. We will get this off the ground. That will not be possible in this law because it is in another Legal procedures must be regulated. But we provide for that. "

Later it became clear: the agreement is not through yet, discussions will continue in the coming weeks.

However, the debate has been going on for a long time - and nurses are far from unanimous.

Sebnem Gümüs, nurse:

»I work in the Covid intensive care unit and I'm more for it.

We are now seeing two of the patients who have been vaccinated, and we are in very poor condition.

And I'm just for it.

Just to protect us, to protect our families and just to be together. "

Luisa Reicher, nurse:

»I believe that compulsory vaccinations will only be set up for care - I don't know.

Then one or the other of the nursing staff thinks about giving up after all.

And that wouldn't help any of us. "

Sarah Penniello, Carer:

“I'm both in favor of both.

So, I am in favor of mandatory vaccination in the nursing profession, because I can see that we have so many corona patients on the ward right now.

There is no end to this.

And in general I am also in favor of compulsory vaccination, because otherwise the pandemic won't stop there.

And compulsory vaccination does not mean compulsory vaccination, but vaccination responsibility. "

Brigitte Gustovic, nurse:

»I'm against it.

I would suggest that everyone decide for themselves.

And what I think would be better: just an antibody test.

Because, many of us have a lot of antibodies without a vaccination, because we are constantly confronted with Covid. "

The union Verdi called for the current labor dispute of the hospital staff, which is currently in collective bargaining for the civil service of the countries.

The warning strikes mainly affect university hospitals and other state-owned facilities.
