The Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) has generally recommended a Corona booster vaccination for all people aged 18 and over.

The decision was expected after the Stiko chairman, Thomas Mertens, announced the corresponding recommendation in the ZDF talk show by Markus Lanz on Tuesday.

So far, the third vaccination has only been recommended for people who are 70 years of age and older, as well as for residents of care facilities, medical and nursing staff, immunocompromised people and people who have been vaccinated with the single vaccine from Johnson & Johnson.

In view of the current pandemic situation with record numbers of infections, the booster vaccinations have been discussed a lot in the past few weeks. Still-Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) spoke out on Tuesday in favor of enabling all people over the age of 18 to have a booster vaccination against the corona virus - even if the last vaccination was not six months ago. "The interval of six months for complete immunization for people over the age of 18, as stipulated in the approval, is to be understood as a guideline which, of course, does not have to be adhered to to the exact day," said a letter from Spahn and the chairman of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, Andreas Gassen all contract doctors in Germany. »You can therefore every patient over the age of 18,even if they do not belong to the risk groups according to the current Stiko recommendation (...), vaccinate promptly and before the end of the six months at their own discretion, ”said Spahn and Gassen.
