With the recent restyling, the Opel Grandland protagonist of the ANSA Motori test has lost the "X" in the acronym to gain richer equipment in terms of connectivity and safety.

Quality relaunched in a segment, that of mid-range SUVs, where it has been a protagonist for years, managing to carve out its space despite the breadth of proposals extending from premium models to more accessible ones.

The look of the Grandland restyling has been updated with more squared-off Led headlights (Matrix Led as an option), placed at the end of the new glossy black grille.

Finish that we find in various elements scattered around the bodywork, replacing the plastic elements of the outgoing model. The revamped Grandland features more substantial changes to the interior, refreshed with the new "Pure Panel" setting. It is a glossy black strip that incorporates the 12 "instrument panel and the 10" infotainment display into a single element.

The widely customizable instrumentation is pleasant and easy to manage, while the graphics of the multimedia system and the fluidity of the screens can be improved.

The seat on AGR certified seats, designed to offer maximum back support on long journeys, is decidedly comfortable. The excellent space on board for the category has been confirmed, in addition to the 514 liters of minimum boot capacity, which benefits from the squared shapes to the advantage of ease of loading and maximum usability.

In spite of the aesthetic changes, the measurements remain unchanged: 4.47 meters in length, 1.60 in height, 1.85 in width and a wheelbase of 2.67 meters. The engine range includes two 224 and 300hp plug-in hybrid versions, the latter with all-wheel drive. On the list there are also non-electrified diesel and petrol engines. The 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine delivers 130 HP and 230 Nm of torque, while the four-cylinder 1.5 diesel engine equipped on the model we tested develops 130 HP and 300 Nm of torque, working in synergy with the eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The diesel unit is the most suitable to enhance the qualities of a thoroughbred Grandland road racer, which remains pleasant to drive even after many hours behind the wheel. In fact, comfort is at the levels of the more expensive premium range, even if you decide to sink on the gas pedal during acceleration. Which is more than discreet and able to facilitate overtaking, considering the torque available already at 1,750 rpm. The synergy between the engine and the eight-speed automatic transmission, fluid and sufficiently fast, also works, as long as you give up the ambitions of a sports car.

The buoyancy calibration is able to reward stability at high speeds, avoiding the floating effect on disconnections, even if it is not particularly rigid. Qualities that are also reflected in the curves, where you can appreciate the cue when exiting, even if there is a bit of roll and the steering setting is aimed more at lightness when maneuvering. The measured consumption, equal to 5.5 liters per 100 km, makes the Grandland diesel preferable to the plug-in version for those who travel over 20,000 km per year, in addition to those who want to save on fuel without the burden of daily recharging. .

Underlining the Grandland's mileage vocation is also the debut of Highway Integration Assist, which uses adaptive cruise control and the active lane maintenance system to make long journeys more relaxing.

It is added to the automatic emergency braking, the blind spot monitoring system and the 360 ° camera flanked by the automatic parking system.

Opel Grandland 2021 is available in four trim levels: base, GS Line, Business Elegance and Ultimate.

The price of the Grandland diesel starts at 33,850 euros.
