Just recently we heard about the race between billionaires and space, Bezos vs. Musk and Richard Branson, the owners of Virgin.

The race has garnered immense criticism as well as satire, but it illustrated more than anything the impact the private sector currently has on space exploration.

General Clint Cruzia (Res., 2-star general), served in the U.S. Air Force and the New Space Corps for 33 years.

In his most recent role, he was responsible for the establishment of the new space arm and its organization - from manpower, to policy and doctrine of warfare.

The United States Space Force is the new corps established in the United States, for the first time in 72 years.

Clint Crosier was formerly the commander of the Central Command Space Forces stationed here in the Middle East, at the U.S. Air Force Assault Headquarters, as a liaison officer to the Air Force, and in his most recent position, as mentioned, served in the Pentagon.

He currently manages the aerospace solutions activities at Amazon's cloud computing division, AWS.

Next week he will attend a re: invent conference, to be held in Vegas.

We caught up with him for a conversation before the conference.

What role do you think the private sector plays in the expansion of the human race into space?

"We believe that progress in the space industry will continue to be driven mainly by innovation and processes of the space industry commercial biggest share cloud technologies. It is important to emphasize that what we see today are a lot of opportunities for organizations of all sizes and in all the world.

What we do is provide infrastructure and cloud services "To help companies in both the private and public sectors process the vast amounts of information coming from space, and turn them into something operational, and reshape the ways we research, make decisions and see the world. AWS is very committed to the long-term goals of both commercial and government customers." .

How do you see the future of humanity in space, and in your opinion, how much is the settlement of Mars within reach or in the near future?

"When it comes for space exploration, we are probably in the most exciting and significant space industry since the Apollo program to the original, somewhere in the 60s. You mentioned Mars, and this is definitely the border exciting.

I'm actually glad to note that some of our customers have already come to Mars this year, including Central Space Muhammad bin Rashid in the Emirates, which relies on AWS technologies, and scientists who support the "Hope" mission (the mission of sending a probe to Mars by the UAE), use our infrastructure to analyze the vast amounts of information coming from the orbit around the planet, to Better understand the atmosphere on Mars and analyze the photographs that come from there. In addition, we also work with JPL Laboratory at NASA (the leading body of the US space agency), during the current mission of Perseverance, NASA's current research tool that is currently roaming on Mars".

"Your country is known all over the world as a factory of technology and innovation, and has rightly been called the 'start-up nation.' Dedicated to space, including greenhouses, venture capital funds, academia and also non-profit entities, such as the Ramon Foundation, and inspiring initiatives such as SpaceIL's mission to send commercial vehicles to the moon.

Clint Cruzia adds: 2013, and work closely with the community of venture capital funds, greenhouses and acceleration programs. For example, at Floor28 we hosted workshops for entrepreneurs in the field of space, including a lecture by people like Charles Bolden, former NASA director, Marine Corps general and astronaut. We also hosted the "Tel Aviv Space Cafe", organized by the Ramon Foundation.

Another example is that we have built our own acceleration program, simply called the AWS Space Accelerator, which is a four-week program for space startups that want to solve the big problems in the field.

One of the ten startups selected for the program is EdgyBees, a company that has offices in both Israel and the United States, which uses cloud computing to turn aerial and video images into real-time decision-making tools.

Their solution combines machine vision and machine learning, to match aerial and satellite imagery - in real time.

Other companies we work with here in Israel are PlanetWatchers, which use geographic location technology for large-scale warning systems, and OneView, which develops databases for analyzing observations of the Earth by artificial intelligence.
