With a dominant presence in every important segment of the Israeli market, from the Hyundai i10 to the huge Flaxside - this is a machine that can not afford to miss one of the most important groups - that of the traditional family sedan, whose power is played in the private market, but still a very important player.

Hyundai Ionic has been fulfilling and fulfilling this role with honors since 2017, but since this is its last year of production, it's time to introduce a replacement and for Hyundai its replacement is the Elantra Hybrid.

The Elantra hybrid, very dramatic looking, probably in relation to the outgoing generation was built as a hybrid car from the ground up (although a petrol version is also offered abroad), and beyond the fuel economy is aimed at added value in terms of dimensions, equipment and safety systems.

Going for size (Photo: Manufacturer's website)

How is the size?

The Hyundai Elantra Hybrid comes first and foremost with generous dimensions from what is usually found in the family car category.

468 cm from the bumper to the bumper are one cm less than the Skoda Octavia and 5 cm more than the Toyota Corolla or Renault Grand Coupe. The wheelbase, from which most of the interior space is derived, is 272 cm and the longest of the family cars on the market today.

At 183 cm wide, it is the same as the Octavia and 4.5 cm wider than the Corolla and 1.5 cm from the Renault Grand Coupe.

In the trunk it features a volume similar to that of the Corolla with 474 liters and smaller than that of the Octavia which leads the category with its 553 liters.

How about the armature?

The Elantra Hybrid comes in two trim levels, Premium and Supreme.

Where the first is the entry level and the second is the senior.

The armature in both is very impressive and the list certainly contains some unusual components.

The Premium trim level includes 8-inch multimedia with Apple and Android connectivity, split climate control (no rear seat outlets), keyless entry and remote drive, electric handbrake, driving mode selector, parking sensors, smart trunk opening (opens automatically Standing next to it), 16-inch rims and also a feature that allows emergency propulsion in case the battery is depleted by using the hybrid system battery.

The Supreme finish level adds to this list a mobile charging pad, a 10.25-inch digital dashboard, LED lighting, a sunroof, 17-inch rims and more.

And how about safety?

The two trim levels also get quite a few advanced safety systems, at least in some of them it is unique in their existence in the vector and the price range of cars in its vicinity.

Correction of deviation from the lane includes maintaining the center of the lane, automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with traffic jams, alert and reminder to prevent children from forgetting and more.

Its unique systems can be found in the Supreme finish level, which adds the prevention of lane departure with vehicle identification in "dead space", warning of a passing vehicle when opening a door, warning and automatic braking in the detection of cross traffic in reverse.

The model received five stars in its crash test conducted by the American NHTSA.

How is the engine?

At the front of the smartstream 1.6-liter hybrid engine, these are Hyundai's improved engines of the latest generation, with fully electronic valve timing systems and lightweight components to reduce friction and abrasion.

The combination between it and the electrical unit yields 139 hp and 27 kg.

With the 6-speed dual-clutch transmission it will jump to 100 in 10.5 seconds (10.8 seconds at the Supreme finish level), the top speed is 178 km / h (173 at the Supreme finish level). We usually do not refer to official fuel consumption as this is theoretical Completely however the hybrid car in question, so this time we will go beyond and note that Hyundai declares 22.7 km per liter.

Another technical component that is different here from the previous generation of the Elantra is in the rear - beyond the use of a multi-link rear suspension instead of the tension beam should arrange for it road behavior and better comfort than before.

How is the price?

For many years now, sedan cars have really not been the Israeli customer's cup of tea. Jeeps and crossovers took their place and pushed them mostly to vehicle fleets and another ultra-conservative clientele that continues to buy them. Although Colmobil does not say so explicitly (just like any other importer), it's not hard to guess that this time too it will be the story. It is therefore to be expected that the not-so-low price tag relative to competitors (although it should be honestly noted that the instrumentation balances the picture) should leave room for maneuver to guide vehicle fleets.

And what is the price? The Premium version starts at NIS 148,000, while for the Supreme an additional NIS 2,000 is added to NIS 150,000.

But there is one more interesting point, as a hybrid, in principle it is expected to become more expensive in January when the purchase tax on it will be compared to a regular gasoline car, meaning it will rise from 50 percent today to 83.

On the other hand, she will receive a green tax benefit of NIS 17,000.

It can be assumed that Colmobil knows very well what this will do to the price of the car, but they prefer not to say whether it will change or not, they do say that they do not change prices within a short time of launch.

So if an interpretation is needed the implication is probably that the current pricing is not likely to change here or there even with the change in taxation.
