Trailer for the movie "Demon Mowers: The Life After" (Film Forum)

Star rating for movies - 3.5 stars (Photo: Image Processing,.)

"Demon Mowers" is the kind of movie that went smoothly. According to the docu-made on the eighties classic, only a short time has passed since Dan Ackroid conceived the story of the scientists mowing down demons until it came to fruition, thanks to the extraordinary mobilization and enthusiasm of all those involved in the craft. When the finished product was released, it was received with even greater enthusiasm, surprising "Indiana Jones and the Cursed Temple" on its way to first place in the box office chart of 1984.

Five years later, "Demon Mowers 2" came out which was already less successful - also because unfortunately , It was released a week before "Batman," the movie that reshaped the face of Hollywood. And that was the end of the crazy card of the movie series. Her next episode came only about half a decade ago, and was a remake and all-female, which as a result experienced an online trolling campaign, and in addition also received terrible reviews.

Following this, the producers decided to change direction and start working on "Demon Mowers: The Life After", which would not be an attempt to restart the series, but to continue from where it left off in the 1980s.

The role of director is Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman who directed the previous two episodes of the series and this time too remained on a producer standard, and everything went smoothly until the Corona arrived.

The film was supposed to be released in July 2020 and then postponed about three times, until it finally hit the screens - in the United States a week ago, and with us this weekend.

Meanwhile, its box office performance around the world is handsome, at least until the new HTBY wreath intervenes.

The plot of the original films took place in New York, a city that had a central part in the plot and actually stood on the standard of a character for everything.

The new episode shifts the plot to Oklahoma, a move that completely changes the atmosphere and turns out to be significant.

In general, more than a sequel to "The Demon Mowers," the film looks like a remake of "The Gonies," as it deals with real estate, families without money in remote areas of the United States and a bunch of outsider children. At the center of the script is Egon's family, one of Hmcshim original, played by Harold Ramis late. it turns out that the scientist left the big apple in favor of Oklahoma. he recognized that the south of evil shall break forth, and sought to investigate paranormal activity identified in place and prepare for the future.

this transition marked him as a fool and a madman, and caused the financial collapse and disconnect The connection with his partners and his family. At his death, he bequeaths his home to his estranged daughter, who was just thrown out of her New York apartment, and moves to Oklahoma with her two children. He was absolutely right in his prophecy. The demons are about to emerge from the earth and rage, and the only question is who will mow them /

Another character in the cauldron is revealed as a seismologist who moves to the scene to also investigate what is happening, starts teaching at the local school and also starts dating the scientist's daughter.

He is played by Paul Rudd, who was recently voted the sexiest man in the world, perhaps as a sign of appreciation for having the most magical presence in Hollywood.

Also in this movie, the graceful star spreads his magic, and he is not alone.

Do not mow, complete .. From "Demon Mowers: The Life After" (Photo: Film Forum)

It has not been a long time since we saw a film whose cast and actresses are so pleasant and cordial. The same is true of Carrie Conn, as the daughter of the original demon mower, and the one who plays her two children - Finn Wolfhard, who broke out in "Strange Things," plays her eldest son and clumsy Trevor; And Grace gives his young and nerdy sister Phoebe.

Grace is only 15 years old, but already has a rich resume. Among other things, she played the young Margo Ruby in "I Am Tonya" and the young Barry Larson in "Captain Marvel," but here it's her first notable big role, and she does so in a way that requires us to give her disgusting titles like "Awesome Discovery" and " The next big thing. The novice actress is required to carry the film on her back, and does so with art. In one of the climactic moments, her character is required to tell a joke with a long beard, about a grasshopper named Steve. It's a board joke, to laugh.

There are also other characters in the plot, and they represent the spirit of the times.

The older brother begins a rather scripted relationship with a black waitress, and his sister befriends a boy of Asian descent, known as a "podcast" after the podcasts he records vigorously even though they have no audience - and that too eventually leads to a successful joke.

By the way, it is interesting to note that Rudd is a Jew, so was Harold Ramis, as are Ivan and Jason Reitman.

Still, and although the film tries to emphasize its ethnic diversity, it has no mention of Judaism.

A tremendous discovery.

Either way, in addition to the actors mentioned, the film also uses the infamous Deep Pike technique to bring back to life an actor who is no longer alive, but whose character is required for the plot.

As time goes on, "Demon Mowers: The Life After" increasingly refers to the life that was before, to a rather predictable turn in the third act.

There are almost no surprises in this pledge, where almost everything you guess will happen - does happen.

Disclosure: I have never been a big fan of the Demon Mowers series.

These are horror comedies, and like any hybrid product, they too fall between the cracks.

These movies dance about two weddings, so they do not have enough energy to invest in humor and they are not funny enough, and on the other hand they are not really scary either.

Smells like a spirit of youth.

"Demon Mowers: The Life After" also suffers from this problem, but it has enough joy of life and good energies to transcend it, and the expected plot moves.

This is not a film that comes to mow, this is a film that comes to make happy, and it does so with a lot of charisma and talent.

In the end, the result also manages to touch, thanks to ending scenes that add to the comedy and supernatural horror also a dimension of family drama.

Appropriately, the son of the original film director's son, "Demon Mowers: The Life After" is revealed as a story about children who learn to understand and get to know their parents, and also to forgive them.

There are many demons here, and the computerized effects make it possible to present them in a monstrous or amusing way, but in the end the most important demons here are the inner and family ones - and the film does not mow them or expel them, but reconciles with them.
