Vaccination without an appointment or registration - that was the promise. Hundreds of hamburgers waited patiently in the bad weather on Saturday. But the doors stayed closed.

As in many German cities, there are long queues in front of the vaccination centers in Hamburg these days.

Many people want to be boosted.

Others, startled by the 2-G rules, come to get their first vaccination.

Since test centers had been closed, the offices now have to reorganize everything.

That went wrong in the Hanseatic city on the weekend.

Hundreds of people were waiting in the right place at the right time: In the Hamburg district of Altona, everyone should be allowed to be vaccinated on Saturday without registering.

That was what the social welfare authorities had promised and called for vaccinations that morning.

But the doors did not open, as people waiting at »t-online« report.

Apparently the city simply forgot to open the test site.

A Twitter video shows how the police finally clear the long queue.

Over the loudspeaker it was said: "There will be no vaccination here today." By then, many people had been waiting in line for hours.

"It rained heavily and there were many elderly people on site, that is, a risk group," said one of the people present at "t-online".

The social authority informed the portal that there was a misunderstanding.

According to the eyewitness, around 250 people had waited in the long row in the dreadful weather in Hamburg with minimum distances.

The hint that the capacities would be expanded in two shopping centers with vaccination stations could only have been a small consolation.

Because there, too, the queues and waiting times were long, and not everyone got in.

At the end of August, the city closed the vaccination center in the Hamburg exhibition center, one of the largest in Germany.

Up to 4,000 employees there provided a total of more than a million vaccinations in eight months.

In the past week, long queues formed at a Hamburg landmark that was converted into a temporary test center: As the “most beautiful waiting room” in the city, the Elbphilharmonie once again opened its doors to those willing to be vaccinated.

In addition to booster vaccinations, many primary vaccinations were given, the medical staff reported.
