Japan closes borders again for foreigners
6:50 a.m.:
Only a few weeks after the strict corona entry regulations were relaxed, Japan is once again closing its borders for foreigners because of the Omikron variant.
"We will ban the entry of foreigners from all over the world from November 30," Prime Minister Fumio Kishida told reporters.
The borders of Japan have been almost completely closed to visitors from abroad since the beginning of the pandemic.
Even foreign residents were temporarily unable to enter the country.
In early November, the government announced that it would allow some short-term business travelers, foreign students and other visa holders to enter the country, but would still not allow tourists to enter.
Because of the Omikron variant, Japan had already imposed quarantine measures for travelers from nine countries in southern Africa.
No Omicron cases have been identified to date.
However, the National Institute for Infectious Diseases is currently investigating the case of a traveler from Namibia who recently tested positive for the coronavirus.
RKI registers 29,364 new
corona
infections - incidence at 452.4

The seven-day incidence has risen again and has peaked. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) stated the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Monday morning as 452.4. For comparison: the previous day the value was 446.7, a week ago it was 386.5 (previous month: 64.3). The health authorities in Germany reported 29,364 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is evident from the numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 03:34 a.m. Exactly one week ago there were 30,643 infections.
According to the new information, 73 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.
A week ago there were 62 deaths.
The number of Covid patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was given by the RKI on Friday at 5.97 (Thursday: 5.79).
The value is not reported on the weekend.
It plays an essential role in assessing what is happening in the infection.
If limit values 3, 6 and 9 are exceeded in the federal states, stricter measures to combat the pandemic can be imposed there.
Corona crisis team should start soon

The corona crisis team planned by the future traffic light coalition could start working in the next few days and thus before the government of the SPD, Greens and FDP takes office.

Omicron variant is spreading

The Omikron variant is spreading in more and more countries: the first cases of the new corona variant were found in Canada and Switzerland on Sunday.
In Canada, the variant was discovered in two travelers who recently returned from Nigeria, as Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos announced.
Those affected were isolated while the health authorities were looking for possible contacts, said officials from the province of Ontario, where the two infected people are.
The Swiss health authority announced on Sunday that a "likely first case" had been discovered in a returnees from South Africa.
The person had returned from the African country about a week ago.
"Genome sequencing will bring certainty in the coming days," tweeted the Federal Office of Public Health.
Dutch police arrest couple after escaping from quarantine hotel
1:27 a.m.:
The Dutch border police arrested a couple after escaping from a quarantine hotel.
The authorities said that the two were caught on Sunday in a plane that was supposed to take off for Spain.
The couple had previously fled from a hotel in which travelers from South Africa who tested positive for Corona are staying, some of whom were also found to have the new Omicron variant.
The police handed them over to the health authorities.
The couple were then re-quarantined.
A lawsuit for "endangering public security" was initiated by the authorities on Sunday evening.
