Apple has taken the trackers market (tracking tags) by storm with its new AirTag, but now it turns out that there are those who have found an original, and not necessarily positive, use for them: car thieves.
Car thieves in Canada use AirTag to track down luxury cars they want to steal from their owners.
The thief, who locates an expensive car for theft in a public place like a mall or movie theater, attaches an AirTag to it where the owner will not find or think to search.
So he can track the car anywhere with the help of his iPhone, and when the car owner comes to his house, the thief recognizes it and comes to steal it.
In modern luxury cars it is relatively easy to break into a vehicle, connect to the diagnostic socket (OBD 2) and with the help of dedicated equipment create a "key" and propel the vehicle.
If the alarm is not activated, the thief can get away with the precious loot.

The Road Show website from Cnet, which reported the phenomenon, suggests that the owners of such vehicles check the vehicle after parking unattended, whether it has been attached to tracking tags especially in places that are easy to hide - such as the wings or under the bumper.
They also recommend purchasing a dedicated lock for the diagnostic socket.
