Gaming Updates: What are the best games of the year? | Israel today

2021-12-14T16:34:14.093Z

And also: the PlayStation 5 finally takes on color, Mega Man takes on Netflix, and Wonder Woman gets a mysterious and surprising solo game

And the winners are ...

Without being ashamed, it can be said with full mouth that 2021 was a pretty shaky year when it comes to new games, or rather their quality.

Many titles were postponed to next year, others suffered catastrophic launches ("Battlefield 2042" and the GTA remaster trilogy are recent examples), and some simply did not live up to high expectations, such as Life is Strange: True Colors.

So it was very interesting to see which games would win the main prizes at this year's Game Awards, the annual gaming event that parallels the Oscars.

Indeed, in most cases smaller titles, rather than formulaic bombastic pledges, came home with the most significant titles of the evening, and we were left with only Pargan.

The big winner of the ceremony - Game of the Year for you - is the charming and exciting multiplayer creation of It Arts Takes Two by Electronic Arts (not typical of it, right?), An action-adventure game that requires two players - embodying a married couple about to divorce - to collaborate to overcome challenges and obstacles Various.

The game has received rave reviews since it was released last March, and in addition to the Game of the Year award, it was also awarded the Best Multiplayer Game and Family Game Awards.

Other important winners are the Deathloop shooting game (directing and design awards) and Kena: Bridge Of Spirits (the best indie game, which we also really liked).

Also, the insanely hard-hitting Returnal exclusive to the PlayStation 5 is the best action game;

Metroid Dread for Switch was chosen as the most successful action-adventure game;

Forza Horizon 5 was crowned the highest quality sports / racing game (and even won the Accessibility Award);

While Age of Empires 4 (oh, the nostalgia) won the Best Strategy / Simulator game award.

Congratulations to everyone.

Rising on the Wave (Gadot?)

This year's Games Ceremony also included some new official revelations and announcements, such as the intriguing Star Wars: Eclipse, which takes place in the "Star Wars" world and comes from Quantic Dream (Heavy Rain, Detroit: Become Human and more);

Sonic the Hedgehog Frontiers;

And even a game of "The Chainsaws from Texas."

But the biggest surprise, in our opinion at least, was the announcement of an action-adventure game starring Wonder Woman.

The title is developed by Monolith, which is responsible for, among other things, the excellent Middle Earth games based on "The Lord of the Rings", so expectations from him are particularly high.

It is not yet known if Gal Gadot will be involved in the project, but it is to be hoped.

Colorful is the new white

If you love the white and monotonous color of your PlayStation 5, you'll probably be happy to know that Sony is expected to launch five new plastic coatings for the console early next year in red, black, pink, blue and purple.

The company will also offer three DualSense controllers in pink, purple and blue, which will join the existing red, black (and white) controllers.

As you know, it is very easy to remove and replace the PlayStation 5 coating, so the launch of the colorful coat collection was only a matter of time.

And what about coatings designed in the spirit of specific games?

Wait, it's coming too.

Mega movie

The mega-action movie "Mega Man" was bought by Netflix, and will be launched exclusively on the streaming service.

Although talk of the film, starring the protagonist of Kafkom's beloved game series, has been running for more than three years, Netflix's connection to the project is a new and surprising update.

For those unfamiliar, Mega Man (or by his Japanese name, "Rockman") made his 1987 debut on the first Nintendo console.

This is a lovable robotic boy with a tendency to destroy less lovable robots and steal their weapons and abilities, but do not judge him.

Mega Man has appeared in dozens of games to date and also in a number of anime series, but now, as mentioned, he is going to make his first cinematic appearance, and not as an animated character.
