Excerpt from "My nephew Benz" (here educational)

It's true that there is not too much competition, but could it be that the best comedy currently on screen is hiding in education? Probably yes: the youth series "My nephew Benz", created by Dror Weidman and yesterday it was announced that a league will be aired and will also be broadcast here 11 starting this Friday, is everything one can ask for right now: wild, intelligent and even subversive at times, which will make adults laugh.

What is it really about? Yoni Rubin (Daniel Koren) is a sloppy, hysterical and clumsy teacher who dreams of running the high school he teaches at - Girion High School, a name that combines Ben-Gurion, Begin and the Alonit convenience store. Yoni is persuaded to make a deal with the devil (Maor Cohen), who is actually a hippie now: whatever he wants if only he can manage to transfer his son, Benzipper or in short Benz (Uri Vered), the matriculation. The demon boy starts high school when he tells everyone that he is Yoni's nephew who came from North Korea. As we will soon discover, high school is hell for those who came from the underworld itself.

Benz came from hell, and he does not know how humans behave - but simply passes as a strange outsider in high school without his surroundings being suspicious.

He falls in love with Neta Hachma (Noa Cohen), and joins a group that includes Nitzan the freak (Noa Astangelov, a sound from "Headquarters"), Alex the nerd (Idan Marin), and Olaf, a foreign and strange student from Belgium (Ram Koplowicz).

In high school as in high school, they have to deal with the dumb guy who answers to the name Little Jr. (Yehuda Bohbot) and the rich and evil class queen Yuli (Emma Alfi).

Behind the class war, everyone is looking for love, friendship and appreciation, and is also forced to learn something from time to time.

Sometimes the adventures are spiced with some magic power that Benz still has or his connections with hell, which creates absurd situations like summoning Goliath and David to a basketball game or an advertisement for air conditioners starring Stalin (!).

Excellent cast.

"My nephew Benz" (Photo: Educational here)

In short episodes (about 25 minutes per episode), fun in spirit and somewhat silly - and there is really no need to watch them in any chronology - this group speaks to the youth at eye level and breaks down the high school social system through the eyes of the outsiders.

It is very close to the rules of the genre, and at the same time serves as an excellent parody of any high school series wherever it is (and also of a few other things).

Along with the talented boys in the lead roles, the excellent cast also includes great comedians in guest roles, from Avi Greinick in a brilliant role as Yochai the Servant, who is funny almost without saying a word, through Sharon Teicher as the rival school principal to Tomer Sharon surprising as the evil Haman.

It's all good and beautiful most of the time, but in the moments when Oshrit Seroussi (teacher Shia-Gal, the object of Yoni's unfulfilled love) and Gitit Fischer (Vered Cohen, a high school principal and former policewoman) are on the scene, this is really the stage where smiles become bursting Uncontrollable laughter.

These two mighty comedians, well known to anyone who has devoutly watched "This and That," simply turn to gold every frame they are in.

In an age where shows about teens like "Bnei Or," "Blackspace," "Unknown" or "Comprehensive Milan" star on screen, "My Nephew Benz" is the hilarious sister.

She deserves your attention.
