For the first time in its history, the Tiktok video app launched the Google search engine from the top of the most viewed sites on the web for 2021, the information security and cloud data security company Cloudflair reported today.
According to the company's data, the Chinese social network is first on the list of most viewed sites in the world, followed by Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, and Netflix.
The YouTube video site only came in eighth place, followed by Twitter and the WhatsApp messaging app.
Although this is only one index out of many that rank the Internet, it is certainly a sign of a trend of tremendous increase in the popularity of Tiktok, which is aided by an algorithm that is considered a leader in its field in offering content to surfers.
According to the company, Tiktok and Google swapped first place during 2021 when finally the Chinese app overtook the search engine by a small but steady gap.
