Suri Note Suri: The new Louis CK special is not funny enough

It's not that there are no good moments in the infamous comedian's new special.

His stand-up is still funny.

Just a little less than once.

Probably the biggest problem is Louis C. Kay's avoidance of the giant elephant in the room.

And as soon as there is a feeling that someone like him is afraid to talk about something, his whole stick is hurt

His comedy at its best when he is not apologizing and not sorry and certainly not ashamed.

Hello, this is the jumpy feminist (and Ashkenazi) you like to hate. And the new Louis CK special (available for purchase for $ 10 on its official website) is not funny enough, in my opinion. I write these lines with trembling fingers because I feel like I'm coming out here against my milieu. Two of my colleagues with whom I have corresponded briefly on this special topic in recent days have assured me that I am going to burst out laughing. One of them watched the special in its entirety, one only saw the teaser on YouTube. Both could have written about him, but asked me. I did not ask, but I feel that the fact that I am a woman has a part in it because, well you know ... public masturbation and all that. If a woman writes that he's still funny then it's a little more okay than a man to do it, no matter how woke this man is. He's still funny. Just not enough.

The word SORRY in huge and bright white Kiddush letters is the only set on stage in CK's special. In fact, we see it even before we see it. But anyone who expects to hear an apology from Messi Kay is going to be disappointed. Anyone who knows CK does not expect an apology. His comedy at its best when he is not apologizing and not sorry and certainly not ashamed. The first words that come out of his mouth are "My favorite sex pose is ..." The words that seal the special are "wet pussy", and in the middle there are jokes about pedophiles, gays, bananas, Jews, Puerto Rican cancer patients and the 9/11 attacks.

What are there no jokes about?

About masturbation in public, about who to - because it is impossible to talk about it without referring to what he did.

CK himself knows that too.

But he does not want to talk about it.

The problem is that what makes it so funny is the fact that CK has no demarcation limits and has no restraints.

He is most interesting and funny, sometimes brilliant, as he emerges from point A and walks the winding circles of his perverted lines of thought until he reaches the most hidden and dark corners of his mind.

Without fear and without being frightened by his own insights.

There, there he bursts out laughing.

So he actually addressed the matter.

And it's not that there are no such moments in his new special. There are several. His stand-up is still funny. Just a little less than once. Maybe it's not him, it's me? Maybe. But I can not not know what I know. And I know what happened. And he knows what happened (and he knows I know. And we all know), but he. No. Speak. about it. And once there's something I feel Louis CK avoids, afraid to talk about, his whole stick is hurt.

So okay, he's not afraid of Jews, nor of gays, not even black women - he is willing to laugh at everyone and take the risk of being kidnapped.

But in his new special he does not laugh at the fact that he masturbated in front of women and sexually harassed them.

Not a word about it.

In contrast, for example, to a show he staged in 2019 and with which he also came to Israel, in which he actually devoted a part to his (weird and dark) point of view in his sexual harassment affair.

But even then that part of the show was not his strongest, and for more or less the same reason.

Apparently even Louis CK has some shame around this matter.

And well that's it, it makes him a little more likely a man (but a little less funny comedian).

Pulls themes from the inside out like a flipped jacket.

When his harassment affair exploded, CK did "the right thing" - he apologized and retreated to his home, where he sat quietly for several months. His series "Louis" was canceled, shows that were closed and sold months ahead were also canceled and he suffered financial losses estimated at several good millions. After less than a year he returned to the stage, to do what he really knows how to do - not only well, but also completely differently from everyone else. No doubt he paid for this affair in some of his audience, but many returned. This piece of cancellation culture becomes much more challenging and much less unequivocal when it comes to someone you truly love.

In the section on pedophiles that is right at the beginning of the special, CK touches on this issue himself - without noticing.

Maybe actually on purpose.

After taking this issue, pedophilia, which until now seemed to us to have only one possible way of looking at it, and pulling it from the inside out like the sleeve of a flipped coat, and with it our stomachs ranging from deep cringe to shameful laughter, he presents Michael's dilemma Jackson: "Michael Jackson greeted us with wonderful music. He made great music. He also did a few other things ... but what's worse - a pedophile who makes great music or one who does not?"

CK asks and then also sharpens: "Zero pedophiles? It's not on the menu."

So equally one might ask: which is better?

Sexually harassing that has great jokes or one that is not funny at all?

Unfortunately, zero nuisance is just not on our menu, probably.
