Briefly click on “I'm Not Driving” once, and the video games are unlocked: because not only a passenger, but also the person behind the wheel can unlock the games on the Tesla monitor while driving and see them on the monitor US Transportation Agency raised concerns.
This is a considerable risk even when the autopilot is switched on.
Tesla then announced that it would block the game app if the car moved.
The Washington Post reports that this will be implemented by means of a software update.
A few days ago, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the USA initiated an investigation into the "Passenger Play" function.
"Tesla has informed the authorities that it will change the functionality of this program," said NHTSA spokeswoman Lucia Sanchez, according to the report.
In the future, the video games may no longer be used when the vehicle is in motion.
"The law prohibits manufacturers from selling vehicles with defects that pose an unreasonable safety risk," said Sanchez.
This also included technologies that distract the driver from driving safely.
According to the report, around 580,000 vehicles are affected by the investigation.
Tesla initially did not respond to a request from the Washington Post about the case.
Despite Tesla's relenting, the investigation will continue, the US traffic safety authority said.
There had already been discussions about the safety of the Tesla autopilot in the past.
Several fatal accidents had occurred.
