Christmas 2021 in Germany is over. It remains to be seen what effects the celebrations in groups and the millions of trips across the country will have on the corona numbers. Only in the second half of January should the figures be reasonably reliable. However, the latest figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for the past 24 hours are already available. It shows: The nationwide

seven-day incidence of

new corona infections has increased from 220.7 the previous day to

222.7

.

13,908 new infections

with the

corona virus

were

recorded

within 24 hours

, as the RKI reported on Monday morning.

In addition

, 69 other people died

after an infection.

That's 2178 cases fewer than on Monday a week ago, when 16,086 positive tests were reported.

The RKI pointed out that because of the Christmas holidays, fewer people were being tested and not all health authorities were forwarding data.

The actual numbers could therefore be higher.

Since

the

beginning of the

pandemic

, the health authorities in Germany have

reported 7,005,289 infections

.

The total number of corona deaths is 110,433.

The institute put the number of people recovered from illness caused by the coronavirus in Germany at around 6,156,500.

In November, the federal and state governments set the so-called hospitalization incidence as the decisive benchmark for tightening the corona measures.

This value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants are in hospital within seven days because of a corona infection.

According to the latest report from Thursday, the

hospitalization

incidence nationwide was

4.55,

according to the RKI

.

New regulations before New Year's Eve

From a value of three, the 2G rule applies nationwide to events in a federal state - that is, only those vaccinated against the coronavirus and those recovered from Covid-19 are allowed.

Now the turn of the year is approaching, here too many people come together in a sometimes rather confined space.

In the fight against the further spread of the corona virus, the federal states are sharpening their catalogs of measures at the end of the year.

Contacts in private and public life are being further restricted, especially in order to prepare against the highly contagious Omikron variant.

Some federal states had already started this at Christmas, others are laying or following this week.

From Monday, stricter rules will apply in Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony, Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
