Reverse parking is not just a very simple maneuver to perform and allows faster and more convenient entry and exit from the parking lot. It is also safer. This is how you do it

Not parked in reverse?

Apparently there is no more Israeli question on the road than "How do you drive?"

But if you want to know what someone's driving level is, you should not see him in traffic, you should look at his parking.

And we are not currently talking about those with whom the kindergarten teacher did not pay enough attention to the story of not getting off the lines and parking in two parking spaces.

We are talking about those who managed to keep entering between the lines, but do it quite the opposite - with the face towards the parking lot.

So after the tips of the wheel replacement guide, and keeping the distance, we're going to break down your parking story.

So why do you have to completely change your parking?

Let's unpack this story.

And we will start with the one situation that actually justifies and requires non-reverse parking.

If you do not have a Porsche 911, your trunk is probably in the back and in some cases access to it is limited when parked in reverse.

But even there, as much as possible it is better to shop with the face out even for the reason that you want to expose yourself as little as possible to the traffic of cars around.

Next, there is always the time argument.

"Getting into the parking lot on the way forward is faster and takes less time."

So it's true, but only to a certain extent.

Since unless you live in Tel Aviv, you should also leave in the end from every parking lot you enter.

And getting out of the parking lot on the way back is much slower - so in the overall bill you did not save time.

Beyond that, the slower ride backwards when you enter the parking lot is to a "sterile" area while the one outside the parking lot is to an area where there is car traffic.

Our field of vision is backwards, especially in tall vehicles, which is very problematic (Photo: manufacturer's website)

The issue of going backwards also leads us to the safety aspect which is more critical in this story.

When we park with the face outwards, at the beginning of our journey (where we are less "inside" the state of concentration) a small advance, more or less up to the front wheel line is enough to get a very good view and field of view of what is happening in the path we go out.

Conversely, when we park with the face into the parking lot, we are required to take the car out in a way that significantly deviates into the lane before we get a field of vision and even then it is very partial.

In the illustrations below it can be seen very well when the green "funnel" represents the driver's field of vision.

How do you do it right?

So after realizing that reverse parking is not just the faster and safer option, let's break down this story of technique for a moment.

What you will see here is the basics, and every car has small nuances of maneuvering, but a practice or two that you devote a few minutes to will save you a great deal of time and put you in far fewer dangerous driving situations.

And finally there are some tips that you must memorize.

1. "Marking" the parking lot

Standing perpendicular to the parking lot (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

You have located a free parking space, in the first stage you need to mark the driver behind you, if there is one that you are about to enter.

The correct way to do this is to stop a little before parking or right perpendicular to it and signal.

This way, the driver behind you will understand (hoping he will understand yes? We encountered others as well) that you intend to enter the parking lot and so when in the next step you drive forward he will not advance and will prevent you from going back.

2. Open an angle

Maximum rotation of the wheels and forward travel to produce an entry angle (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

The second step is a complete rotation of the wheels to the maximum angle of inclination and forward travel.

This part is critical because as a better initial angle is opened, the car will be "aligned" in front of the parking lot and thus maneuvering backwards can be done gently and with the possibility of better noticing the parking lines and adjacent cars in both side mirrors.

3. We're inside

After the initial angle, turn the wheels back in the other direction and simply guide the car in a slow drive back into the parking space.

Here, the more straight our entrance angle to the parking lot we can focus on the exact location of the car between the lines of the parking space.

Today when most of the new car is equipped with reverse sensors or cameras one does not have to guess how much one can move backwards.

If you do not have them, dedicate some free morning to studying your bumper line.

how?

Take a bottle of soft drink with a wide spout, fill it with sand up to the half line, stick a stick in it and place it behind the vehicle, driving backwards while looking in the rearview mirror to the point where you "touch" the stick.

In time you will get the appropriate distance estimate.

The mehadrin also stick a tennis ball in the top of the stick.

It's a stick.

tips

Just before you head out to park the program again and this time in reverse, a few little tips for your parking.

1. Take a look - If possible, try to take a look at your parking environment. She did not necessarily stay the same as she did when you arrived. Did anyone leave a super cart there? The boy threw the bike and left? Did anyone leave a cardboard box behind? You should find out before you get on it.

2. Are you back in the car and the windows are wet? Take them down and pick them up. On the outside of your window there is a rubber strip that works like a mop and removes much of the water droplets.

3. Finish with the phone - Maneuvering to exit a parking lot, whether traveling in front or in reverse Rahmana to Tzilin requires concentration. Do not do this while dividing your attention into something else.

4. Sensory compensation - In the visually impaired, the other senses are sharpened in order to compensate for the loss of the sense of sight.

When we come out of a parking lot our field of vision is limited - we see less well.

So turn off the radio, open the windows and try to absorb as much of the environment as possible about what is happening.
