Pushed by the Omicron variant, the Covid-19 epidemic has reduced the doubling time to a week and it is realistic to expect around 100,000 cases as early as December 31st.
The Nobel laureate Giorgio Parisi told ANSA, analyzing the most recent data.
"It is very clear that the total cases are doubling in a week" and "I fear we will reach 100,000 cases before New Year's".
What will happen next "is difficult to say: it will depend very much on behavior".
Instead, "the protection given by vaccines, which are fundamental", is clear.
