Tesla has begun recalling about half a million 3 and S models in the US for problems related to the trunk of the vehicles, specifying that, to the best of its knowledge, the manufacturing defect did not cause any accidents or damage.
The automaker plans to remedy this free of charge.
They are interested in the recall 356.309 Model 3 and 119.009 Model S. In the case of the Model 3, Tesla indicates that "repeated opening and closing of the trunk can cause excessive wear of the coaxial cable" connected to the rear view camera, which could make the camera unavailable to the driver.
As for the Model S, the potential problem stems from misalignment of one of the trunk locks located at the front of the vehicle.
"The front trunk is likely to open unexpectedly and obstruct the driver's view, which increases the risk of an accident," Tesla says.
The company estimates that 1% of the Model 3s and 14% of the Model S recalled will have the manufacturing defect.
