Many Israelis reported this morning (Monday) that they received messages on WhatsApp, which were allegedly sent by officials in Iran.

According to the Israeli cyber defense company Check Point, this is a consciousness campaign of pro-Iranian elements originating in Yemen.

The announcements, sent on the anniversary of the assassination of Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander Qassem Suleimani, include messages designed to create social outrage against the Israeli government, under the hashtag (grouping tag) #message_of_Iran.

For example,

one of the messages read: "Residents of the country are waiting for prices to fall

"The commemorative days of a particular event are considered a well-known platform for various attack groups to produce a kind of conscious achievement for them," says Lotem Finkelstein, director of research and intelligence at Check Point.

"The damage may not be great, but the goal is more noise and attention and mostly to produce a sense of synonymy in the public."

"In the background, the influence attack that allegedly led Iranian profiles in order to create chaos and rifts in Israeli society. It seems that the attackers are riding on the seeds of these persecuted and trying to deepen these anxieties - even over WhatsApp," Finkelstein added.

"We know this in Palestinian contexts like around Nakba Day, as well as from other places where there are political conflicts in the world. The phone numbers are likely obtained from previous leaks in which a lot of information was leaked, It".

"These messages join the trend of fake profiles on social networks that aim to sow division in Israeli society," says Mae Brooks-Kempler, a cyber expert and founder of the "Safe Online" community.

"The idea is to generate social outrage. For example, another cottage protest like a few years ago. It undermines government stability, public confidence in the administration."

"In these messages, there is no danger to the recipient of the message. It is only a war of consciousness and there is no danger to the recipients of the messages," says Tom Malka, a cyber-threat intelligence researcher.

"They apparently obtained the telephone numbers of the Israelis from leaking personal information they had in the past year."
