A piece of motorsport history will be auctioned with the Ferrari 550 GTC.

However, the GT racing car is not cheap because it is extremely rare.

Maranello (Italy) - The rarer a car is, the higher the price at an auction.

If the vehicle is also a particularly rare Ferrari that was used in motorsport, the sales price should rise again.

At least that is the theory that the Ferrari 550 GTC should soon show whether this is really the case.

Because one of the two built copies is going under the hammer at RM Sotheby's in Paris, as reported by 24auto.de.

The racing car was developed in cooperation with N-Technology as a reaction to the successes that ProDrive celebrated with its own version - which was built without permission from Maranello.

In 2003 ProDrive won the LeMans 24 Hours in the GTS class.

The 550 GT1 also won the Spa 24 Hours in 2004.

The Ferrari 550 GTC and the 550 GT1 from ProDrive met there in July 2003.

Shortly before, the racing car from Maranello made its debut at the LG Super Racing Weekend at Donigton Park Circuit.

In Spa, the Ferrari 550 GTC offered by RM Sotheby's was even in the lead before an engine failure stopped it after 326 laps.

In 2004 the vehicle with the chassis number 2102 was initially stored and replaced by the Ferrari 575 GTC.

The short period of use was also due to the fact that the 575 had already replaced the 550 before it made its racing debut.

In 2005 the 550 GTC was then sold to a private racing driver.

Ferrari 550 GTC: Race car has "Red Book" certification

He fielded the Ferrari 550 GTC at the Campionato Italiano Velocita Montagna (CIVM) and celebrated numerous successes with the racing car. In 2016 the engine was overhauled before the vehicle was sold to its current owner. He restored the vehicle and had it painted the way it was painted at the Spa 24 Hours: in Rosso Corsa red and yellow. (Auction: This Porsche Carrera GT could be a bargain)

In March 2021 the Ferrari 550 GTC received its “Red Book” certification.

Means the vehicle and all of its parts according to the original specifications.

This certificate is awarded by Ferrari as part of the Classiche program.

If you want to call this piece of motorsport history your own, you have to dig deep into your pocket.

As CarBuzz.com reports, the price is likely to be over 200,000 euros.
