Several witnesses heard exchanges of fire near the establishment located in a priority security area of Fameck,

Fortunately, the events happened shortly after leaving school.

Monday January 3, around 4:40 p.m., a bullet nestled in the double glazing of a window on the first floor of the Jacques Prévert school in Fameck, near Thionville (Moselle), while teachers were still there.

The students having already left the scene, there were no injuries and the bullet did not pass through the glass anyway, which cracked under the impact.

Alerted by the noise, the teachers immediately contacted the police, according to Le Républicain lorrain.

Several witnesses say they heard gunfire in the rue d'Alsace, an artery near the school where bullet holes were discovered on two parked vehicles.

According to France Bleu, at least seven or eight shots were fired if we are to believe the number of cartridges found on the ground by investigators.

Also according to the information site, these cartridges could come from a 9 mm type weapon.

"The acts of irresponsible delinquency"

According to Le Républicain lorrain, the teams of the Thionville research brigade, to which the investigation was entrusted, the criminal identification technicians, the Fameck gendarmes, the firefighters and elected officials went to the site.

The perimeter of the incident was quickly secured and samples were taken.

The bullet that hit the school was sent to Paris and will be studied in a forensic analysis laboratory.

"A search system has been set up to find the perpetrators of the exchanges of gunfire who are on the run," Lieutenant-Colonel Guillaume Chanudet, of the Thionville company, told the regional newspaper.

"The investigation is underway and security reinforcements are being sent for the next few days," we can read on the city's Facebook page.

Present on the spot, the mayor (PS) of Fameck, Michel Liebgott, deplored "acts of irresponsible delinquency". He also indicated that the glass would be replaced as soon as possible because he wanted "to prevent children from seeing the bullet impact". "The findings of the criminal investigation unit should allow rapid progress in the investigation, given the use of videos and very specialized means implemented" he added, according to Lorraine Actu.

According to Republican Lorraine, investigators are analyzing CCTV images from this priority security area in order to determine the circumstances of the incident.

The newspaper recalls that the area of rue Saint-Exupéry had already been the scene of strong brawls a few months earlier.

In 2019, a fight between two rival gangs from Fameck and the neighboring municipality of Uckange left one dead and two seriously injured.
