The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has again reported an increase in the nationwide

seven-day incidence

: It gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Monday morning at

375.7

.

For comparison: the previous day the value was 362.7.

A week ago the nationwide incidence was 232.4 (previous month: 389.2).

The health authorities in Germany also reported 25,255 new corona infections

to the RKI within one day .

This is evident from the numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 3:34 a.m.

A week ago there were 18,518 infections, with gaps in tests and reports over the course of the holidays.

According to the new information, 52 deaths

were recorded across Germany within 24 hours

.

A week ago there were 68 deaths.

The RKI has counted 7,535,691 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not recognized.

The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was given by the RKI on Friday as 3.15 (Thursday: 3.26).

The value is not reported on the weekend.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered on Monday morning at 6,745,100.

The number of people who died with or with a proven Sars-CoV-2 infection rose to 114,029.

Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach announced on Sunday evening a positive list for corona rapid tests that recognize the Omikron variant well. "In the afternoon I had the Paul Ehrlich Institute prepare a positive list with tests that are particularly suitable for Omikron or detect Omikron early," said the SPD politician to the ARD capital studio. However, that will take some time. This should enable better orientation when selecting the test.

On the ARD broadcast “Report from Berlin”, Lauterbach said: “We don't know exactly how well these tests work for Omikron.” However, it has not yet been possible to check this because there were no reference values. “So we didn't know exactly: How much viral load must there be for someone infected with Omikron to be contagious to others at all? We are getting this data right now. «There is a certain probability,» it is very high «, that existing tests will also prove Omikron. "We know that from the literature, from the studies." But he wanted to know exactly how high the accuracy was.

The Paul Ehrlich Institute (PEI) had already given an initial assessment: Accordingly, most of the corona rapid tests offered in Germany are also suitable for detecting the Omikron variant.

The PEI writes on its website that this is »based on the current data situation«.

By mid-December, a total of 245 different so-called antigen tests had passed a general test procedure by a PEI laboratory, 199 had passed the test.

Of these 199, the vast majority could in turn detect an omicron infection.

However, the PEI has some restrictions: "For a final, qualitative and quantitative statement, however, further investigations, in particular comparative studies with samples from Omikron-infected people, are required."
