"Someone is following you": the alert the model received in the middle of the night

Sports Illustrated's swimwear model Brooks Nader just went out to a bar in New York and found that she was being followed, according to a report on People.com. Nader, 25, claimed that Apple's AirTag - Apple's smart tag that can be attached to various objects in order to easily find them using Apple's "Find My" app - was implanted among its objects.

The model had no idea this device existed until it fell victim to its improper use, "it was the scariest moment in the world," she said, adding, "I'm just trying to raise awareness for it and tell all the women out there - keep your belongings."
This is not the only case in which such an Apple Air Tag has been used.
Similar stories of women surfaced on Tiktok, last December a column was written in the Washington Post about how easy it is to use this device to track someone.
In addition, police departments across the U.S. have shared warnings on social media about how Air-Tag can be used to steal a car.
In a statement to People.com, a spokesman for Apple said they "take customer safety very seriously and are committed to the product's privacy terms".
He continued: "Air-Tag was designed as a device with proactive features aimed at preventing unwanted tracking - it updates users if an un-owned Air-Tag is attached to them, thus deterring its use for nasty purposes," the spokesman said.
"If users feel their security is in jeopardy, they are welcome to contact local law enforcement agencies, who can work directly with Apple to provide any available information about the unidentified Air Tag."
