A YouTuber tested Tesla's full self-driving system in the snow.

The result was dramatic.

Iowa (USA) - Like many manufacturers, Tesla is also working on autonomous driving and both of its customers are already working on systems such as Autopilot or Full Self Driving (FSD).

However, this is only a level 2 driver assistance system, so the driver still has to keep the steering wheel in his hands and keep an eye on the traffic.

In addition, Full Self Driving is still in a beta phase.

Since the release of the FSD beta version in autumn 2021, Tesla has repeatedly released updates for its driving assistant.

The camara-based technology doesn't seem to be fully developed, however, as a video by YouTuber Iowa Tesla Guy shows.

In it, the Tesla owner tests the FSD beta version 10.8 with his Model Y. However, the journey takes place under difficult conditions, as the road is covered with snow and is barely recognizable.

After just a few meters, the system wants to give control back to the YouTuber.

But he starts another attempt, as reported by 24auto.de.

But also in the second attempt it becomes apparent that the full self-driving seems to be overwhelmed with the conditions.

The software and cameras have trouble seeing where the road begins and where it ends.

And the low traction caused by the snow also affects the function of Tesla driver assistants.

Accordingly, Model Y is unsure how to behave and either briefly tries to return control to the driver or begins to stray off the road. The YouTuber Iowa Tesla Guy also notices: "It feels like the car is a young puppy who sees snow for the first time and doesn't know how to handle it." In the comments below the video, other users report similar problems with Full Self Driving.

“FSD is impressive, but not yet suitable for winter”, is how one user sums up the problem.

For the “CarBuzz” portal, the question arises as to why Tesla has not installed a safety function that immediately transfers control of the vehicle to the driver if the system does not know what to do.
