Electric cars are starting to pop up on the roads as verified after a party in the kindergarten.

The quiet, the cost savings and the ecological agenda, all connected to a bottom line of a meteoric jump in the delivery data of electric propulsion cars in Israel in 2021. If you drive on central roads mainly and in cities, there is a good chance you have seen at least one or two around you.

Although the supply and variety are far from those of cars with gasoline engines, something else and no less interesting is happening - the price range on which these cars are spread is very wide.

True, they are more expensive than comparable gasoline cars in a large proportion of cases and will offer you to weigh the cost of maintenance in the purchase price.

We did not include in this review all the trams sold in Israel, but the prominent ones and also some of the more recommended ones today.

So just to make an order, here is what awaits you outside if you decide to go for an electric car.

Prices and sales: The tram market in 2020 (Photo: Screenshot, CARZONE screenshot)

Sunshine M2 exceeds 60,000 for urban users (Photo: Manufacturer's website)

Up to 100,000

As mentioned, electric cars are expensive, if your budget is very limited, the supply is even more limited as far as a new car is concerned.

At the base is the Sunshine M2. The tiny Chinese car that did not copy the front of the mini at all, belongs to the genre of cars we have already encountered when we examined the similar lychee a few years ago. It is an urban, two-seater and basic tool in its assemblies and performance. It comes in two battery versions that affect the driving range of between 80-100 km in the basic version and 100-120 km in the senior version. Price: starting at NIS 59,000.

Another car that could theoretically be interesting in this price range is the new Fiat 500 which is marketed only as an electric. When the news landed here, the base version was NIS 99,000 - but successfully buying one in practice, there is no registration of even such a single car in the Ministry of Transportation. Meanwhile, it has also risen in price to NIS 109,000. In short, there is nothing to see here.

Fiat 500, now only electric (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

Between 101 and 130,000 shekels

But the Fiat 500 tram also has another version, which costs NIS 115,000 and is pushed into this price group.

It offers a declared range of 320 km and you can read about it in the full road test we conducted for it upon its arrival in Israel. Other versions of the 500 are the 3 + 1 with half a door to facilitate entry to the rear seats and the sunroof version. NIS 144,000 and NIS 167,000, respectively.

Until recently, the Renault Zoe tram was also marketed here at a price of NIS 130,000 and with a declared range of 306 km, but as with some of its competitors, when gasoline alternatives are more attractive in price and use envelope - electric cars do not Rising in price-sensitive segments.

Indeed, if you are in the direction of a tram in this price range, this year may come in a row from Dacia that will start marketing here the small and modest tram spring (up to 230 km), which recently made headlines in the context of the low crash score it achieved. Get into that price range.

Geely Geometric C, the star of the group (Photo: Keenan Cohen)

Between 131 and 150,000 shekels

In this price range the bulk of the competition of the popular electric vehicles is concentrated.

As you will see very quickly - there is a regular stanza here - what the masses buy, based on existing gasoline models that greatly discount the business and a common denominator for the most part - China.

The developer in this group is the Geely Geometric C. The vehicle that comes in two range versions - 350 or 460 km starts at NIS 135,000 - as the price of family cars or regular crossovers equivalent to its dimensions. The construction quality is very good, the equipment is rich including that of systems Safety. The performance is more than satisfactory and in the tests we conducted for the regular range version and also in the debut run in the long range version they achieved a result very close to the declared data.

The electric MG ZS (Photo: Manufacturer's website)

More expensive than it is about 10,000 shekels.

It is now available in an updated version, with improved driving ranges from 320km to 440km depending on the battery pack.

Also with better levels of equipment and safety equipment than before and even the option to charge and operate electrical appliances from the vehicle.

Another option for a tram in this price range is at Hyundai.

Buyer EV is the electrified version of the manufacturer's small crossover.

The stated range is 305 km, the torque is 40.2 kg and the power is 136 hp. At a price of 142,900 shekels it is screwed in the heart of this group of convertible crossovers. But in his case relying on a successful gasoline model in terms of road behavior, Good for those who are also interested in driving an electric vehicle.

Hyundai buys EV, maintains the qualities of the petrol model (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

In this price range, there is also a first representation for the super mini cars in the form of an Opel Corsa at a price of NIS 145,000.

As in the case of the Zoe, however, she found it difficult and difficult to convince.

Despite 136 hp, a declared driving range of 335 km that is reasonable for the average use of a super mini car, and even on paper the maintenance costs are lower than a petrol car in a total calculation of maintenance over the years.

In this category customers are looking at the price tag and that of the Corsa is not attractive enough.

And in the corner of the expected interesting car is again the MG, this time with the 5 EV.

A compact family car in a station wagon configuration that may depend on its price be very attractive to vehicle fleets looking for a spacious and electric family solution.

Like the ZS, here too are two battery packs that offer ranges between 320 and 400 km.

AIWAYS U5, many dimensions without much money (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

Between 151 and 200,000 shekels

In this wide price range, most of the activity of real electric cars is concentrated, or rather concentrated.

This is the price group in which there are more and more models that offer a dedicated electric platform for all its benefits rather than relying on an existing car.

We will not go over all of them, but the more prominent and relevant ones.

The AIWAYS U5 that entered Israel as the first vehicle for the Chinese manufacturer is an example of how the electric age brings completely new manufacturers into this game with a very impressive opening shot.

The dimensions are larger than gasoline competitors like the Hyundai Tucson and the like and are reflected in excellent interior space.

A declared range of about 400 km and a realistic range of over 350 km make it useful in everyday life.

3 crash stars in the European tests and a slightly cumbersome multimedia system are his main weaknesses.

The price starts at NIS 157,500.

Peugeot 2008, also in gasoline, diesel and full electricity (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

Peugeot 2008 in its electric version is already having a hard time standing out when tools in its dimensions start at prices significantly lower than its 160,000 shekels.

But it offers the qualities in the form of the driver's environment, the instrumentation behavior and the comfort offered by the petrol version only with electric propulsion.

The declared range stands at 319 km and is also already borderline today as one that can be used as a main car and not just as a second car at home. Anyone who still wants a European crossover (using the same platform) at a similar price but with a slightly improved range can look at the electric Opel Of 159 thousand shekels.

Chinese SKYWELL ET5 with all the extras (Photo: SKYWELL)

With a jump of NIS 15,000 from the previous pair and with a price tag starting at NIS 175,000, another new vehicle is in Israel, from a manufacturer that made an increase in the second half of 2021 - the Chinese SKYWELL is stabilizing here with the ET5.

With a stated range of 460 km, and an exceptional level of equipment in its generosity. They still have a significant gap to close in terms of human engineering and behavior from the old manufacturers, but in terms of equipment, size and range to shekel is definitely a deal worth considering.

Nero EV is too expensive in front of the competition (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

Kia has a dedicated electric car in the barrel that looks very impressive on the surface and raises the bar of expectations, it is called EV6, but in the meantime the electric ambassador of the manufacturer in Israel is the Kia Niro EV.

Although he impressed us greatly in terms of behavior, usability and even the real range he achieved in the test and stood at just over 400km (the declared range is 455km).

It is already at price levels that keep it away from the competition relevant to it in the world of medium-sized small crossovers and too close to that of dedicated trams on full.

Ionic 5, excels in every aspect (Photo: Dudi Moskowitz)

Hyundai that has entered the world of power with all its might with the first dedicated model called the Ionic 5 proves that when a major manufacturer attacks a target, it does so with all the power and experience in vehicle development it has.

And this is very evident in the Ionic 5 which impressed us in the way it won in the comparative test we conducted against the Skoda Aniac and the SKYWELL.

Not only in space, in human engineering, driving comfort and behavior but also in its excellent electric range.

The figure of 481 km is declared to be definitely applicable in real-world conditions. It is not cheap and its current price is NIS 190,000 for the opening version, but at the moment it is our recommended crossover around these price points.

Skoda Aniac.

The spearhead of the Volkswagen Group's assault on the local electricity sector (Photo: Dudi Moskowitz)

At the same entry price as the Ionic 5 is the Skoda Aniac, which is also the first entry into the dedicated electric world of a veteran manufacturer.

His card, beyond very good human engineering and the quality of materials is the range.

This declared stands at 517 km declared thanks to a large 82 kWh battery.

His main problem is that apart from the entry-level versions at a price of NIS 190,000, the higher finish levels already push him further to prices of NIS 225,000 and far north up to NIS 261,000 for the highest finish level.

And this is a price range where the Ionic 5 for example exceeds it in terms of instrumentation.

Mini SE, small, expensive and especially with a limited range (Photo: Keinan Cohen, Keinan Cohen)

For those who want to combine their green agenda with a classic fashion icon - the mini offers the SE.

Although it is significantly cheaper today than the price it started with, because even if 195,000 shekels for a small car sounds like a lot to you, with its landing here the price tag was 235,000 shekels which certainly sounds like a complete exaggeration today.

Add to that a realistic range of only about 200km and you get a very, very focused car not only in its target audience but also in the relevant route of use it offers. So why is it here? Mainly because it is different and interesting enough.

Maxus E Unique 5 - 7 single electric seats (Photo: Manufacturer's website)

He is not here because he is impressive in terms of his range, quality or performance.

But the Chinese Maxus E Unique 5 still has a reason to go on this list, for those who need 7 seats and must, but just must have them in an electric vehicle - so for now he is the only one offering it.

Beyond that, it is difficult to see it as a real alternative to a truly family car, with a declared range of 260 km, each long trip requires exclusive and constant reliance on the chain of public charging stations and lots of picnic stops.

Price: NIS 198,000.

DS3 Crossback, a single luxury brand below the 200,000 mark (Photo: Ronen Topelberg)

Like the Opel Mocha, like the 2008, the luxury brand of the Stalantis Group - DS has an electric alternative.

The DS3 Crossback E-Tense may carry a lesser-known symbol in the luxury market but to its credit is the fact that it was one of the pioneers in this field of small and electric crossovers.

You will not find an exceptional performance here, the main thing for him is the external appearance and the unique cabin.

And it does settle for 136 electric horses for front-wheel drive, a 9-second acceleration per 100 km / h and a declared range of 317 km.

It closes this price range when it carries a price tag of NIS 198,990, on the scales.

The Revolutionary - Tesla Model 3 (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

Between 200 and 300 thousand shekels

Setting a price range of NIS 100,000 may seem like a lot at first glance, but in this price range there is quite a lively activity of some interesting players in the local electricity field. Some are there due to tax regulations.

The first is the Queen of Trams of 2021, who is responsible for the relatively sane pricing of trams in Israel and the big star of the local car market - Tesla Model 3. True, it rose by about 20,000 shekels from the same price tag of 182,000 shekels to SR + when it arrived here in February 2021 But despite the not-so-simple reception ropes and ones that continue to this day with a service envelope that still needs improvement - it's still one of the best deals for those looking for an electric sports sedan that completely challenges what you thought of luxury and value.

It is also spread over this price range in its long-term version that costs 246,000 shekels and with it we toured the country in the 1,200 km challenge in which it stood bravely. Acceleration from 0 to 100. Check out how much more cars cost in 3.3 seconds (from a roll, but we will not be petty) and compare it to its 272,000 shekels. The point is clear.

The Volvo XC40 electric.

Lots of power, performance and equipment (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

From here we are already entering the worlds of more recognizable luxury brands.

The first of these is Volvo, which puts the electric version of the XC40 at a price of NIS 270,000.

You can read more about what we think of in the first road test in Israel that we conducted for the model, but let's just say the external appearance of this version known as P6 or P8 depending on the level of finish and performance does not betray the change below it.

In the P6 it uses a single engine with a power of 231 hp for a declared range of 400 km.

In the P8 version these are two electric motors with 407 hp and acceleration to 100 km / h in 4.9 seconds very fast.

The range in this version is 414 km thanks to the use of larger batteries.

In the more powerful version, the price is NIS 299,990 and there is an explanation, we will get to that later.

Audi Q4 e-tron, technically not quite here yet (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

Above the Volvo in the price range is the first compact electric of the Audi Q4 e-tron.

The platform is the MEB that serves all of the Volkswagen Group's electric cars and is between the Q3 and Q5 in terms of its dimensions in Audi's offering.

At a price that starts at NIS 290,000, the Q4 e-tron provides 204 hp for the rear wheels and its 77 kWh batteries are supposed to provide a declared range of 521 km. There is a slightly larger declared range of 534 km, but its price already crosses the 300,000 shekels.

Mercedes EQA, it's electric GLA (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

The last on this list and also with a price tag that kisses NIS 300,000 is the Mercedes EQA. As in the case of Volvo this is actually an electric conversion of an existing model, in this case the small GLA of Mercedes.

It does offer a very impressive instrumentation list in the entry-level versions and also its road manners and comfort are very good. But compared to its competitors the power is low and stands at 188 hp, and so is the performance of 8.9 seconds per 100 km / h. At the same time it offers a declared range of 414 km and in our test reached 380 km, not exactly a replacement for a main car, but definitely suitable for the average type of use of a compact luxury Gippon.

And now for an explanation for the strange price grouping of three vehicles in different powers, performance and ranges for the same price points - as usual in Israel - taxation. The tax benefit to which an electric car is entitled in the amount of up to NIS 75,000 is limited to cars under the amount of NIS 300,000. And so in order to win it and present base versions at an attractive price the three tools will be priced this way.

BMW iX3 A variety of propulsion units (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

Between 300,000 and dreams

Above the NIS 300,000 threshold, without the tax benefit, there are mostly cars and brands whose customers are less than the poor of the deal, in which they will make better use of the NIS 75,000 granted by the state.

One can bet carefully that they know how to take care of themselves financially in more significant amounts.

Here you can find in the list the BMW iX3 which as can be understood from its name is the electric version of the X3.

Like other converted versions, it joins a range of engines that place in the showroom alternatives to petrol, hybrid, plug-in and full power.

The adaptive suspensions ensure good ride comfort, the road behavior is quite enjoyable and the numbers are: 289 hp for the rear wheels, 6.8 seconds per 100, a declared range of 454 km and a price of 430 thousand shekels.

EQC, the striker of Mercedes (Photo: Rami Gilboa, Rami Gilboa)

The direct competitor to the iX3 from Mercedes is the EQC.

It is also the conversion of an existing internal combustion vehicle, in his case of the GLC to electric propulsion.

Although it is already relatively old in the bunch (introduced in 2018), its cabin still looks great, the space is excellent and so is the ride quality.

Its finish levels bring the price range from NIS 500,000 to NIS 590,000, but in all of them the electric base is the same.

The electric motor distributes the power to all the wheels and has a lot of it - 408 horsepower and a torque of 77.5 kg. At acceleration to 100 km / h it records 6.8 seconds.

The declared driving range is less impressive than that of some of the competitors, 414 km which in the real-life test stands at about 330-350 km.

BMW iX, mainly purpose-built display (Photo: manufacturer's website)

BMW marks its entry into the dedicated electric worlds using a one-of-a-kind model, the iX.

It is one of a kind in that it presents more of a model, but a fundamental change in perception of how BMW designs and manufactures cars.

It is also different in the sense that it is not part of a series of models but one that stands on its own and not part of a series of models like the X1, X2, X3, X4 families etc.

It arrived in Israel very recently and we first used it a few months ago to find out that it is a very impressive technological machine, but not exactly what you think of it as a BMW driving machine.

Here it is marketed in its two versions, the 40s and 50s.

For the first time 326 hp, 76.6 kWh batteries and a declared range of 408 km. The second has 523 hp, 4.6 seconds per 100, huge 111.5 kWh batteries and a range of 600 km.

The BMW iX has a price that starts at NIS 559,000 and reaches NIS 760,000 for the senior versions.

First to his name - e-tron (Photo: Ronen Topelberg)

Like the EQC, the Audi e-tron has been around here for a few years now, but he was really one of the first to get into this game and this fact stood to his credit when he penetrated here very successfully at the time.

Since the electric car market has undergone several incarnations and data of declared 400 km of electric range are no longer some jaw dropping number when popular models also come and bypass this figure.

What is left for it? Excellent ride comfort, impressive performance thanks to 408 " S. and 5.7 seconds per 100.

And there is also a not really cheap price of NIS 525,000.

The Porsche Taken, in a Porsche like the Porsche, is almost perfect (Photo: Eitan Kajia, Roi Rosen)

And last but not least is the Mercedes EQS.

The intention behind this car is to do to the world of electricity what the Mercedes S-Class does to the world of ordinary vehicles - to present the best luxury car in the world - only with electric propulsion.

For this purpose, the company harnesses into this car more or less the latest in the field of batteries, propulsion, cabin, safety and other components of luxury cars.

The EQS comes in two versions, the 450 and 580 which differ in both the levels of instrumentation and luxury and in propulsion, power, range and of course price.

For 450 rear-wheel drive and 333 hp that accelerates it to 100 km / h in 6.2 seconds and an amazing declared range of 700 km between charges.

In the 580 version, the power increases to 523 hp, the acceleration is shortened to 4.3 seconds and the travel range is shortened to 627 km.

As for the prices? These start at NIS 890,000 for 450 in its entry-level version and stretch up to NIS 1,390,000 for 580 at the highest level of finish.
