Coronavirus: RKI reports the daily maximum number of new infections

According to the Robert Koch Institute, 80,430 corona cases were registered within 24 hours - the number is a new high. The nationwide seven-day incidence exceeded the 400 mark for the first time.

The number of new corona infections in Germany has reached a new daily high.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) stated the number of new infections in the past 24 hours on Wednesday morning as 80,430.

The previous record was 65,371 new infections on November 18.

On Tuesday morning, the health authorities had reported 45,690 new infections to the RKI.

The seven-day incidence, meanwhile, passed the 400 mark. As of Wednesday morning, it was 407.5.

The day before it was 387.9.

A week ago the incidence was 258.6.

The value quantifies the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants over a period of seven days.

In addition, 384 new coronavirus-related deaths were counted on Wednesday.

According to the latest information from the institute, the health authorities have recorded a total of 7,661,811 cases of infection since the start of the pandemic.

The total number of registered corona deaths in Germany rose to 114,735.

The institute put the number of people recovered from illness caused by the coronavirus in Germany at around 6,836,600.
