It may not be the big, expensive and eye-popping one among Lexus models in Israel, but the NX's importance to the manufacturer's model offering in Israel cannot be underestimated.

The mid-range crossover is not only responsible for 35 percent of its sales in Israel, but has consistently led the dedication charts of this segment over the years against very good competitors like the Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, BMW X3 and others.

It was also one of the growth engines of Lexus hybrid propulsion in the domestic market and now, with the new generation two things are happening - expectations of it to continue to do what it did are high and mechanically it is now introducing plug-in propulsion to the manufacturer's offer.

The exterior design of the new generation is similar to that of the outgoing one in the general lines but the lines around the larger grille are even larger, the lighting units, wall and tail have been sharpened.

At the rear, it shows the connected lighting it wanted across the trunk and the change the manufacturer will implement in all its models - a transition from a logo to a caption on the back door.

In terms of dimensions, despite an increase of 2 cm in length, 2 cm in width and an addition of 3 cm at the base of the wheels (height remains unchanged) The overall look is compact and comparing the numbers to its direct competitors confirms this, it is still smaller than them. The trunk, there with 549 liters is at the heart of the category (a volume maintained thanks to the placement of the batteries in the car floor and not behind the back seat).

In the cabin, the model underwent the most significant makeover.

Modern looking, the 14-inch touch screen is one of the largest on the market and thankfully frees us from the historic Lexus touchpad.

It combines touch operation with physical switches for important functions and also contains voice activation.

The NX comes in three trim levels: Kyushu (named after Lexus' flagship factory), Dori (named after a traditional Japanese sword manufacturing technique) and F sport (doesn't really need to be explained right?).

All three have the highest level of safety and include the third generation of Lexus safety systems.

Beyond automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure correction and more, they add steering assistance for emergency evasive maneuvering, pedestrian detection even in cross-traffic and a system that prevents doors from opening (front and rear) in detecting passing traffic.

The instrumentation is also impressive and already at the Kyushu finish level it includes the 14-inch screen, Apple (wireless) and Android connectivity, a system with 10 speakers, seats made of electrically adjustable leather-like material with heating, sunroof, peripheral cameras, electric trunk opening, Electric adjustable steering wheel and more.

The generic level of finish adds a panoramic roof window, ventilation for seats, leather seats and more.

The level of F sport finish, which will only be available in the 450h plug-in, increases the size of the rims to 20 inches, adds adaptive dampers, adaptive LED lighting, a top display and touch controls on the steering wheel.

The propulsion systems include the 350h and + 450h versions. When the first will be hybrid and the second with plug-in propulsion. The importer states that the expectation is for a 50 percent distribution between the buyers of the plug-in and the hybrid.

At 350h, a 2.5-liter engine with a fourth-generation hybrid system. The power is 244 hp and the acceleration to 100 km / h takes 7.7 seconds in the dual-propulsion version and 8.7 seconds in the front-wheel drive.

In the 450h plug-in that comes with dual propulsion with an electric motor on the rear wheels, an 18 kW battery will be used to provide a declared electric range of 70 km at speeds of up to 135 km / h. When not running on electric power, the petrol engine 2.5 liters and the hybrid unit will provide 306 hp which is enough for an acceleration of 6.3 seconds per 100 km / h. Unlike plug vehicles there are no others in which when the battery is depleted the vehicle switches to using only the petrol engine, here it becomes hybrid and also uses the engine to charge the battery.

When the entry-level version costs NIS 290,000, on the face of it it is an increase of about NIS 15,000 compared to the outgoing generation, but when the list of equipment is included, which includes components that were not included even in the high-end trim levels of the outgoing generation.

When you include the prices of the entry versions of its competitors from Europe (NIS 315,000 for the XC60 or NIS 354,000 for the X3 and NIS 365,000 for the Q5), the proportions generally reset.

The full NX prices now stand at NIS 290,000 for the 350h in the Kyushu finish level and NIS 313,000 for the generational finish level, which also comes with dual propulsion.

The 450h plug-in starts at NIS 325,000 for the Kyushu finish level, NIS 336,000 for the generational finish level and the F sport version will cost NIS 360,000.
