“The beginning of the end of the pandemic.”
This prophecy, which we all want to see come true, is the one pronounced on Wednesday by the Swiss Minister of Health, Alain Berset.
The day before, it was the head of strategy of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), Marco Cavaleri, who declared:
“No one knows exactly when we will be at the end of the tunnel, but we will get there.
(…) We will move quickly towards a scenario that will be closer to endemicity (
common presence of a disease in a given population or geographical region, Ed
.).”
The same day, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, hoped to see the peak of the current wave very soon.
A look at the situation in the United Kingdom, which is ten days ahead of us in the Omicron wave, is also encouraging.
The country passed its peak almost a week ago, and the number of hospital admissions has been falling for the past few days.
