According to data published by Public Health France, Omicron represents nearly 90% of the approximately 265,000 daily cases as of January 9.
The new variant gradually becomes hegemonic.
However, the contaminations linked to Delta remain significant in absolute value.
Indeed, it is estimated that on December 24, half of the 60,000 contaminations were linked to Delta.
As of January 9, this proportion has fallen to 9%, but for a much higher number of contaminations.
The number of Delta cases therefore only fell from 30,000 to 23,000 in the space of two and a half weeks.
These figures also hide a very strong regional disparity.
The south of the country was affected later by Omicron, and contamination linked to Delta remains at a fairly high level there.
