In an interview with the Express, Professor Alain Fischer predicts a lull in the epidemic situation by March.

Asked in a long interview given to the Express about the health situation in the coming months, Alain Fischer, the government's "mister vaccine", said he was rather optimistic.

“In March, we should arrive at a very good control of the current wave.

A period of calm should then open up before us

,” he said.

"Of course, there will always be new variants, but hopefully they will be less aggressive."

The doctor blames the immunity of the population, which should increase considerably by then.

"During the current wave, probably within six weeks, the overall level of protection of the population will be quite high

," said Alain Fischer.

“About 30 million French people are currently completely vaccinated.

They will probably be 45 million by then, without counting the protection induced by the infection.

This will help control the circulation of the virus.”

As for the appearance of a potential new variant, Alain Fischer indicates that it may well be less worrying than its predecessors.

“For a next variant to be selected, it will in turn have to be very different.

And so that he has a lot of mutations, which, again, will take him time, ”

he explains.

"Here again, he must not kill the patient in whom he appeared, which implies less aggressiveness."
