A five-year-old girl died on a ski slope on Saturday.
The tragedy occurred in the Haute-Savoie resort of Flaine, reports France bleu.
The facts took place on the Serpentine slope, while the young child was taking a course with an instructor from the French Ski School (ESF).
She was hit by a skier.
The Bonneville prosecutor's office explains that she was about to "make a right turn when she was very violently hit at high speed".
The weather conditions were good, which means good visibility.
The fatal shock occurred "rather on the edge" of the track.
Manslaughter investigation
Le Dauphiné specifies that the little victim did not survive his transfer by helicopter.
She was English and lived in Geneva (Switzerland) with her family who owns a second home in Les Carroz, near Flaine.
The skier implicated in the shock is a 40-year-old Haut-Savoyard.
It is a volunteer firefighter from Saint-Jeoire, who would have carried out first aid actions.
Very shocked, he was taken into custody.
An investigation is opened for manslaughter by “manifestly deliberate violation of an obligation of security and prudence”.
