A traffic sign prohibiting the overtaking of single-lane vehicles is a topic of conversation – and the sign is certainly not entirely new.
A traffic sign that is not entirely new, but which is rarely erected, has already provided a topic of conversation in many places.
It is the
sign 277.1;
This involves a
ban on overtaking by single-track vehicles
for multi-track motor vehicles and motorcycles with sidecars.
According to the sign, motorists are therefore prohibited from overtaking cyclists or scooters at this point.
Cyclists in
particular
should be better protected against accidents.
Recently, such a sign had provided a topic of conversation* in Stuttgart, for example.
However, the traffic sign, which is rarely used to date, was introduced in spring 2020, as
Faz.net
reported, after it had been used in Frankfurt, for example, in the same year.

No overtaking sign to protect cyclists from accidents
And also near Munich, in Garching on the old B 471, the rarely used
sign 277.1
has already been set up, as
Sueddeutsche.de
reported in May 2021.
At this point, the road including the cycle lane was so narrow that "after a tightening of the road traffic regulations, drivers and cyclists could no longer relax there," as the report said.
Instead of 1.25 meters, drivers now have to keep a distance of 1.50 meters when overtaking.
Also interesting:
Drivers will have to observe these rules in 2022 – driver’s licenses, assistance systems and the like.
The traffic sign was first seen in Stuttgart on Friday (January 14), as
reported
by SWR.de.
To justify why such no-overtaking signs are only now being used in Stuttgart, the city informed the SWR that there were still open questions that
would have affected the
fine
for violations .
According to the SWR, the spot on Böblinger Straße/Kaltentaler exit, where the sign now hangs, is notorious because special caution is required there.
The lane width varies there, which is why vehicles cannot keep the
minimum distance of 1.5 meters
throughout.
